My children an I adore Jeff as a teacher. Like one of the other posters mentioned, he's easy to have around. He's very polite, punctual, funny, kind, prepared and soft spoken. Without question our children will look back when they are adults and say that Jeff was their favorite teacher, EVER!! It is evident that he looks for and finds the special sparkle in each of his students and helps them bring it out musically. He's a talented singer, pianist, and guitar player. Because he periodically plays or sings along with the children, they feel like they are part of a really cool band and can't wait for their next lesson. He is in demand, yet he makes our children feel like they are his only students because of sweet personality. Jeff has mastered the art of providing the framework to learn while having fun. Our girls practice often because they want to keep playing the lively pieces he teaches them. Jeff's super power is helping students feel great about themselves and excited to learn music. My wish is that we could clone Jeff, and let all students take their first, fifteenth, or last music lessons with him. Vicki

Neal has been a teacher and a mentor to my son, Ethan since the 1st grade...now my son attends college at University of San Francisco and still derives pure pleasure in playing his guitar, thanks in much part to Neal's positive influence! Neal is an exception musician and shares his passion with his students. My son started with Neal at a young age and took lessons weekly with Neal until he graduated high school. It's the one "scheduled activity" we could never take away from him because he enjoyed it so much. It's hard to verbalize what a positive impact Neal made in my son's musical development growing up, along with just the terrific role model and friend he is to Ethan. Neal has coached Ethan through numerous Variety shows, Battle of the Bands, small local gigs, school performances and the very prestigious So Cal Honors Jazz band! Neal is the best - and very versatile. He teacher because he loves it.

Free Rain have performed for the Clan Gordon Pipe Band Tartan Ball for more than 10 years. They are a great band and are great to work with. Their tune selections are greatly appreciated. Our Tartan ball has around 500 guests each year and this is our 54th annual. The Tartan Ball would not be the same without Free Rain. Sincerely, Jack Montgomery - Secretary Clan Gordon Pipe Band

We hired Kim for our wedding reception. Not only was she a consummate professional to work with, she absolutely rocked it at the reception. Her band and vocals were amazing and she has incredible stage presence. She emptied the seats and had our party dancing until the lights came on. Besides the music, Kim was also instrumental in providing ideas and assistance as we planned our event. She went above and beyond our expectations.

Pyramid Scheme was everything we hoped for and more. The interaction with them before, during and after the performance was perfect. Their repotoire is excellent, they adjusted the sound level right to the size of the room and the crowd, normal discussions were still possible without loosing any intensity of the songs played. Even joining the band to play a few numbers together using their instruments was possible. Would definately hire Pyramid Scheme again if we need entertainment in the area.

Dan Kramlich is the best! Dan's grunge trio performed at my wedding ceremony and for the cocktail reception afterwards. My family and friends raved at how wonderful the music was. I had attended a few of his grunge trio's performances and contacted Dan to have him perform at my wedding. It was the first wedding decision my husband & I made - even before picking a venue, date or anything else. Before the wedding, I provided Dan with a list of songs for the ceremony and he was incredibly thorough about asking questions to better understand the length of the procession (and therefore estimated timing of songs and cut offs for the music) as well as dress code for the band. Dan was very prompt and responsive to all emails prior to the wedding for questions we and our venue had. At the wedding, they showed up early to set up and performed the music wonderfully. It says a lot to trust someone enough to let them play live music you walk down the aisle to. My husband and I were very happy about the results and our wedding guests could not have been more delighted. It was fun to watch their faces light up and exclaim, "Wait... I know this song!" We'd hire Dan again in a heartbeat.

We are very happy with Bloomfield Music's service! The 3 piece band we requested included piano, flute, and cello. They sounded wonderful, were very professional, accommodating, and well prepared. They played a mix of classical and contemporary/pop pieces for my husband's 50th birthday party. Highly recommended!

    About

We bring in a great crowd, once they hear us and know we are returning. This is the advantage of having professional groups rather than those that are not. Every time we play a club or lounge, we have more and more people come back to hear us, and enjoy our music. As performers, we put on a great show, and dress accordingly.

      About

I guess that would depend on which service we're referring to here; as far as karaoke goes I feel that it's because I add to the performance of the singer by playing assorted instruments, backing vocals, and an above average mix. These things combine to create a much more authentic feel for a singer. As far as instruction, I use a much more informal and flexible style that I feel is less rigid for a new student and allows for more creativity and enhanced advancement.

      About

We provide a full-service band for weddings and events as well as the DJ and sound. We want your party or event to be the best it can be, and we are here to help.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
