Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I honestly enjoy what I do and I think that makes a difference in the final outcome of the work anyone does. Other than the feeling of knowing I made someones house more livable and attractive, I like coating the floor and watching all the color and life come back into the material and shine.

Derick was great to work with! I appreciated his passion and attention to detail and the finished floors look fantastic. Derick was very conscientious and explained the reasoning behind his recommendations and made sure we had enough information to feel confident in our decision. My wife and I are very pleased with the final results and are already considering using Derick for another project.

Derick was awesome and my wife and I are super happy with our floors. We have a 100 year old home and were planning on resanding top nail oak and old growth fir that already existed in our house. Mid way thru we decided to add new top nail oak to match throughout. Derick sourced the material in a day and still came in under our budget. We just keep staring at the floors and smiling!

Higher Standard Hardwood did the floors in my parents spa master bathroom and they turned out beautiful! Based on their experience and the other work I've seen HSH do I would not hesitate to recommend them or hire them.

So glad we hired Derick to refinish our oak floors! His work is flawless and our 30 yr old floors now look brand new. We originally had a friend who "knew how to refinish floors" start the project. Needless to say it didn't work out so we needed someone who could undo everything that had been done incorrectly. Derick was able to do the estimate the same night I posted my project on Thumbtack and he started work the next day. It took less than 3 days - he works quickly, but is still very thorough. He appreciates the natural beauty of the wood and has a great eye for matching other wood tones. Our cabinets are light and furniture is dark. He chose a complimentary color to both. We've already recommended him to friends and hope to have more future projects for him.

Derick loves wood and it shows in the lovely floors he finished in my living room and dining room. The floors deserve 5 stars! Caveats: Be sure to get insurance through Thumbtack or make sure Higher Standard has it; and consider getting a written contract (Thumbtack recommends doing so) specifying items to be accomplished and the time-frame expected to finish the job so that both of you are on the same page. I have had to have someone else fill the tack strip holes as well as fill the quarter round staple holes and replace the transition strip and glue all quarter round returns. Mea culpa since I didn't have a contract. I have had compliments on the job Derick did!!!!
Higher Standard Hardwood's reply
I call this an unfair, inaccurate, passive aggressive "I'm the victim" sandwich with compliment bread. This person second guessed and repeatedly insulted my abilities so many times it became funny. I have never had someone tell me my business to this degree or have been so close to walking off of a job than this one. Her Internet "research" gave her the false and inflated sense of knowledge that was not once actually correct, not once, yet the second guessing kept coming. The quarter round she laments about was added in by her at the end of the job and took several weeks to be delivered. Even though this caused an inconvenience for me, I still made the time to install them. Since she ordered the wrong material, I didn't have the exact color putty at the time to match her incorrectly purchased trim. I had a schedule to keep with other customers as well as an out of state obligation to attend. Rather than simply contacting me once I returned from thanksgiving in Arizona to do simple minor things like put putty in nail holes, she chose to pay someone else to do it, further milking her "I'm a victim" drama that I could not escape. From the moment I started, I knew she wasn't going to be happy, no matter what I did. I do great work, never needed a contract and have never needed to use my insurance...not once in 7 years. Some people just can't be satisfied.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Yes, however there are so many variables and options to consider that it is much easier to discuss in person.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to meet and greet with the intention of identifying the particular tastes and concerns of the homeowner. Sometimes what they think they want isn't what they actually want, I have a wealth of flooring knowledge to help us get to the bottom of things to ensure that the end result is the one that is sought after.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have 15 years experience in the trade and have dealt with nearly every situation there is to have in this realm of construction. Not only that, but I have experience in fabricating custom furniture from the standing tree to the setting table.
