Everything about our experience with Dennis was great! Our gas water heater went out and while I'm pretty good at repairs, I didn't know enough about replacing this appliance so we looked at the reviews and hired Dennis. His expertise, attention to detail, professionalism - all top-notch. And on top of it all, a very nice guy! We couldn't have asked for a better professional experience. Will definitely hire again.

Axel did a drywall repair job to patch up some holes that were made by an electrician installing a light switch. There were 10 3" diameter holes that needed texturing as well, and he did a flawless job. Definitely will use him again in the future.

The Apple Landscaping Crew showed up on-time, did a great job with my jungle of a yard, and even blew off the driveway and deck without having to ask. I am genuinely impressed with both their skills and work quality. Couldn't be happier with their work!!!

Jorge and team did a substantial drywall repair for me. They were able to get started more quickly than other bidders, and finished my job earlier than expected. Work was of good quality, and they made a good effort to clean up after the job. Would go back to them again.

Steve Dahlin has worked for and alongside my spouse and I for more than ten years in many facets of restoration and renovation of our historic property, such as carpentry, siding installation, painting, repairing and restoring historic floors and thresholds, windows, and exterior and interior historic moldings. The projects we've worked on together have focused on jobs both small and large on the renovation of our two-hundred-year-old historic house and barn. Steve has brought his expertise and long experience to solving the often sticky problems that emerge when restoring, preserving, renovating, and replicating historic features. One project particularly stands out: We had found an original, historic window in terrible disrepair and deterioration that we wanted to restore and put back into its original location. Every other contractor, window supplier, etc., that we spoke to told us that the window was beyond repair and that we should discard it and purchase a new one. Steve, however, took on the job and did a fabulous job of restoring the window to not only its former beauty but also its functionality. Steve impresses us with his willingness to come out and help us even when the jobs are very small. Steve has recently worked with us on repairing our historic barn, and we've been very pleased with the result.

Julio and his crew are top notch. I having only lived in Washington a few years don’t know all the good companies around . But I’m here to tell you . You need landscaping a patio or a driveway these guys will go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied. I will add pics in a bit as soon as it’s all done . ( had some settlement issues no fault of there’s my yard was a swamp ) I know they added more fill to get the patio where it was needed . But not once did he change his quote . Julio is all about quality and doing a fantastic job making the customer happy . I will only use his company for anything yard related Thank you Julio for giving me a beautiful patio !!! Thanks again John Biegger

Bill was very professional with his work. I inquired over 4 different contractors to fix a crack in the front steps of my condo (due to a tree root), and only Bill responded in a timely manner, had great communication with me, explained what he would do and what parts needed to be fixed (removing the tree, removing and putting the custom railings back on, leveling the concrete, etc.). He also was the only contractor that had a proper invoice and was overall very professional. Although some of the other contractors I contacted with had a cheaper price, overall, I got a sense that they weren't willing to actually fix the root cause of the problem, but had more of a band-aid short-term fix (such as just fixing half of the concrete or not removing the tree that was causing the problem). I would highly recommend hiring Bill for any concrete work and would definitely reach out to him again for any future concrete work.

Ryan explained the process very well. This is a asphalt driveway 30-50 years old, and was never taken care of! He gave us 3 options with bids that were very fair priced. He was so professional and a very hard worker, and took great care of surrounding landscaping. I would recommend him and his company very highly. Excellent work with what he had, and we appreciated his effort in working so we did not have to replace drive. That just was not in our budget!!! He also did a huge patch along side because it was crumbling away. So he will be our go to guy for many years. Thanks Again Ryan Sandi

I'm extremely satisfied with Sun Rise Concrete. Longo came out to my home and provided me with the estimate. He was very clear about what the project would entail, and the price was just what I was looking for. The work was done with excellent care given to my yard and property. Our driveway looks fantastic and we have already received many compliments. Longo and his team were very friendly and easy to work with. Highly Recommend.

I had hired a different contractor who started job and bailed. Brian at craftsman construction saved me! I had them convert garage space into a bonus room. They also did a lot of sheetrock and sheetrock repair plus the entire house finish work/trim and painted walls and all doors. They did an impressive job, I would highly recommend!

Carlos came out the next day after contacting him through Thumbtack. I told him what I needed done in my driveway, he emailed me a bid by that evening. I had already got 2 other bids, his bid was in the middle. I decided to go with Seattle Concrete because of how Carlos listened to my needs and then explained to me in detail the steps it would take to get me what I wanted. The crew that came out were on time, explained the steps, had me come out before laying the asphalt. They were on it, I was very impressed watching them work. They were definitely a great team. My driveway was done that day, they cleaned everything up, like they weren’t even here, except left a new driveway. Which is exactly what I wanted :)

Drove from the Seattle area to rural Belfair and worked very hard to cut my parents concrete driveway. I would recommend this company ten out of ten times. The effort, value, professionalism and quality was more than I’d expect from any company. We were quoted one price and even after the work ended up being more than bargained for, he kept his word. He even had to get extra tools at his cost and time because the concrete was thicker than expected and very well set. We paid him for the extra efforts because he put in an extreme effort for my parents.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good concrete contractor?

Concrete contractors pave driveways, build foundations for homes, install retaining walls, create hardscaping for front and back yards, build concrete steps, and so much more. When searching for a driveway contractor, read reviews from previous customers and ask for referrals. Ask the contractor for photos of examples of their work that’s similar to what you want. Confirm they will get the proper permits so your driveway is up to code. Hiring a driveway contractor to install concrete can average $5-$6 per square foot, or more, depending on where you live, the slope and grade of the driveway site, and regional labor costs. For a new asphalt driveway, the cost could average from $3-5 per square foot. A standard concrete driveway of 500 square feet averaging $5-$6 per square foot would cost $2,500-$3,000 — so it pays to research someone who will do quality work. Excavation and grading work can increase your cost per square foot significantly. Ask whether the contractor provides a materials and labor warranty for their work. Some cracking of the concrete may occur as it settles, but you should talk with your contractor about any structural or aesthetic concerns you have. When hiring a concrete contractor, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to redo a concrete driveway?

Replacing or renovating a damaged or time-worn asphalt or concrete driveway can boost your curb appeal and add to your home value. If your concrete driveway is nearing 20 years or more, it may be wise to invest in an entirely new driveway, instead of redoing your current one. Asphalt driveways average 15-20 years of life, so if you start needing major repairs around the 15 year mark, weigh the pros and cons of repairing or replacing it. Request bids from two to three driveway contractors to determine pricing and project scope, and check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • The national average cost to hire a concrete specialist is $2,750, but that price can vary greatly depending on the work needed to repair and resurface your concrete driveway, the square footage of the project, current costs of concrete, and regional labor rates.
  • Driveway contractors average $2-$3 per square foot to smooth and resurface your asphalt driveway.
  • Resurfacing concrete driveways averages $3-$10 per square foot. Pricing can depend on repairs needed, project size and geographic location.
  • Nationally, the average cost for resurfacing a 500-square-foot driveway ranges from $2,000 to $5,000.
  • Sealant for a concrete drive can cost $20-$80 per gallon.
  • Sealant for an asphalt drive averages 25 cents per square foot.

What do paving contractors do?

Paving contractors can be hired to install a concrete or asphalt driveway at your home, office or property. They can also repave an asphalt or concrete driveway that has been damaged by time, weather or heavy loads. When you are looking for a driveway contractor, request quotes from at least three professionals who are in good standing and have great customer reviews. They should do a site visit and write you a bid, detailing the work involved, materials needed, approximate length of the project and estimated cost.

The site for your new driveway will determine costs and the work required for your contractor. First, the ground must be excavated to lay a clear path. This means removing any trees, bushes and stumps. Next, the driveway contractor will grade the area, making a level surface for the concrete or asphalt. To ensure proper drainage, driveway contractors should install a sub-base of compacted gravel (or similar) 4 inches-8 inches deep, depending on your soil type. Then the concrete or asphalt may be poured and smoothed over the top. Your driveway contractor should recommend an appropriate sealant for your climate and advise you on curing time.
