I have been a customer of Alex's Cleaning, LLC for over the last two years. They come to my home on average twice a month and never, in all the years I have employed many other different home cleaning services, have I ever been happier with the level of service I have received from this dedicated, family owned and operated business. I felt very comfortable with them right away, and even gave them a key to my home after the third visit so they could perform their services while I was at work. I trust them completely with my home and personal possessions. My experiences with them have only been positive. And my pets are very comfortable with them too! They only employ personnel who are very dedicated, detailed orientated and trustworthy and while I have a set day of the week they normally come to clean my home, they have never failed to be flexible when I needed to change a date or time of service. Often they go above a beyond the agreed to service; like when I needed additional help after surgery. They never charged me for this additional help and that spoke volumes to me. I have never been dissatisfied with the quality of work they perform and feel that the prices they charge are extremely reasonable. In fact, I have told them many times that they don’t charge enough for the type of superior work they perform. I rarely give recommendations because at sometime or another, everyone disappoints, but in this case I can say with certainty that in two years they have worked for me they have “NEVER” disappointed me. For this reason, I am happy to take the time to tell others of their outstanding cleaning service. I’ve even recommended them to my colleagues at Boeing. Alex’s Cleaning truly deserve this praise and more, but being the humble, unassuming people they are, they would most likely blush at this review. You will be happy their level of customer service, of that I have no doubt. Sincerely, Pat M. Kent, Washington

Axel and his team responded to my request, and came over to our place to assess our roof/gutters on the very same day! They cleaned our gutters, applied moss removal, and addressed all of our roof related maintenance, without issue. They were a pleasure to work with, and we hope to work with them again in the future!

I was in need of getting my house with Vinyl siding painted. I came across Dan on thumbtack and we set up an appointment for a estimate. Dan was on time and gave some great insight on the type of paint I would need to complete project. Within a couple days I received an detailed estimate of the work that would be done. We picked a general time for the project that would allow for great weather. Dan showed up when he said he would and completed the project. My house looks wonderful and he even offered to come back and fix a minor issue if it didn't get resolved. Dan was great to work with and I would recommend him and his team to anyone looking for a drama free experience. Dan also offers a 5 year warranty which allowed ease to my mind.

Dennis was the most economical bid, and was prompt in coming in. He quickly found the issue, and helped replace the disposal as well. I like that he was accessible on the phone all the time. We will probably be having him over for more general handyman tasks in the future!

Criss and his crew took out three huge cedar trees for us, built a new cedar fence and a new picket fence. They were so quick and efficient when removing the cedars. We were expecting our yard to look like a warzone after those trees came down, but Criss and his crew did a great job cleaning up after. The new fences look great. We are very happy with the services Criss provided and will definitely call him again in the future.

Requested a yard clean up. Polo came by my house, did a walk through with me & sent me a reasonable & fair quote shortly there after. Polo is very responsive via text and email. I appreciate that & he lets me know when they are coming to do the work as I hate to be in their way when working on my yard. It’s winter, but I’m very pleased with the way my yard looks now. Polo gave me a quote for regular maintenance for the year as well. I’m looking forward to seeing the work progress throughout the spring, summer & fall! I’ll be updating this review in the months to come.

This summer we needed to have some landscaping done and contacted Blake and his team. Their work far exceeded our expectations and we were extremely happy with their prompt, professional service. With our house having beautiful curb appeal and yard looking the best it ever had we asked if we could have routine maintenance done to keep it looking so good. Blake's team now keeps our house looking amazing all year round and is more affordable than we thought! Couldn't be happier and we send all our closest friends to use them as well!

A couple months ago I began looking for a property management company to handle my rental condo. I talked to John and a couple other groups. John was very responsive, answered all my questions, and most importantly, seemed like he really enjoyed his job. We signed a one year agreement. Then, the day after he posted our condo online, my wife and I learned of a someone who was going through an extremely difficult life circumstance. We felt that God was calling us to let this person live in our condo for free for a while. Since we knew this person, we would handle the day to day management of the condo until they could get in a better situation. I reached out to John and his partner, Jim, and explained the situation. I asked them to remove our condo from their listings for now. I said that although we didn't need their services for the time being, we had signed an agreement and I planned on honoring that agreement and paying the monthly fees. John and Jim were extremely understanding and, even though we had already signed an official agreement, told me they wouldn't be charging us any fees while we were helping this person. It was an extremely generous gesture on their part. So, although I currently can't speak to the services they provide yet, I can tell you that their character speaks for themselves. I have every intention of working with them again as soon as our situation changes and we begin renting our condo out again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a property management company do?

Property management companies manage the rental of residential homes, apartments, condos, commercial spaces and retail spaces. Property managers can oversee just a single unit or many properties, whether those sites are inhabited full-time or are vacation rentals. A property management company helps a property owner or landlord find tenants; collects rent; takes care of accounting, property maintenance and repairs; handles on-site management; and manages vacation rental check-in and checkout tasks. Although many property owners or landlords successfully manage their own rental real estate, a property management company can help you handle tenant issues and maintenance problems, especially if you are not located in the same city or state. Most property management companies deal with tenants directly, and their tasks include:

  • Marketing the rental property
  • Collecting rent
  • Handling repair problems
  • Responding to tenant complaints
  • Evicting tenants

A property management company may be a good choice for property owners who have several investment properties, live far away from the rental property, or don’t have time for hands-on management.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

  • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
  • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
    • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
  • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor. Fore more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

Why is property management important?

A property management company can be a landlord’s greatest asset. As a neutral third party, the property manager handles the day-to-day operations of a real estate investment, from a single vacation home to a large apartment building or several rental properties. A property management company can be especially helpful to landlords who own several units and can’t manage each of them individually, or those who live too far from their investment properties to meet with renters and oversee maintenance. Property management is particularly important if your rentals are part of an affordable housing program. To receive financial assistance from the government, the landlord must comply with a complicated set of rules; property management companies should have both experience and expertise in complying with the rules specific to each housing program.

How much does a handyman charge?

The national average rate for handyman jobs is $90-$160. A handyman performs general maintenance and repairs for residential and commercial properties. A handyman may charge a flat fee for standard services that take a predictable amount of time, such as installing a new appliance, as well as an hourly rate for larger projects such as digging out and replacing a rotted fence post. A cost-saving strategy when hiring a handyman is to bundle all the tasks you want them to do into one visit to make the most of any minimum service fee. Hourly rates for a handyman can average $50-$100 per hour. Pricing will depend on skill and experience required for the job, as well as regional labor rates. Here are a few examples of average handyman flat rates.

  • Attic ladder replacement: $150.
  • Toilet replacement: $75.
  • Ceiling fan and light fixtures: $75.
  • Faucet replacement: $125.
  • Garbage disposal: $75.
