Over the last 12 years, Jim has worked with us on 5 different residences. We have asked for his help and expertise over a range of requirements: furniture layout, space-planning, custom window treatments, upholstery, color consultation and art placement. He also has a real talent for staging. He is very aware and sensitive to the home environment, from lighting, to air quality, to cleanliness, and will always add the touch of strategically placed flower arrangements to maximize the home's appeal. We have worked with Jim on a variety of projects over the years. Paint colors, remodeled bedrooms, furniture selection and design (he designed a couple of beautiful pieces for us), kitchen update, a bathroom remodel, home office design. The work spans about 12 years. I think most of Jims clients stay with him for a long time as their houses and needs change. Jim listens well and is flexible and reasonably priced, also patient and completely willing to tackle problems as they arise, just as you want from a designer. Weve never had any problems with his work. I appreciate the fact that Jim is willing to work within a whole range of prices and often has good ideas to save money on our various projects.

I would highly recommend Jim as an interior designer. He is very professional, has a great eye, terrific contacts and makes it fun to collaborate with the client. Jim has been our interior designer for 11 years. He helped us to furnish and decorate our house when we bought it 11 years ago. Since then, he has helped us with many smaller scale projects and annual Christmas decorating. I particularly like that Jim works with me to get the look I want rather than designing with a designer's signature look in mind. In addition, he always goes above and beyond - for example, he'll wire a new sconce if it doesn't really rise to the level of needing an electrician (but is beyond most homeowner's expertise). He has a terrific can-do attitude. He is always on time and very flexible in finding a time to get together that works for my schedule. We love his design esthetic. In fact, we are in the design phase of a fairly major remodel of the main floor of our house - gutting and redoing the kitchen, enclosing a covered porch to add a family room off of the kitchen, relocating the powder room and adding a mudroom. Jim will be my right hand man in choosing furniture and decor. I give Jim my highest recommendation as an interior designer. He is also a terrific guy who is a friend of our family as a result of getting to know him through the work we've done together over the years.

I have worked with Jim on multiple occasions and cannot say enough about his talent, his innate sense of perfect taste. Recently he supervised the restoration of my sofa and chairs as well as selected the perfect fabric for each. Once refreshed he continued by making sure the rest of the living space was perfectly arranged. I highly recommend Jim and will continue to use his talent.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have an hourly rate and am sometimes willing to do a flat rate, for example, consultations. The retail price of items I can purchase to-the-trade will be marked up a minimum of 20% over cost. I have accounts at places like Crate and Barrel that reimburse me for 10%.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I meet for discussion in order to get a fix on their own vision. I aim to work with customer's own style. I usually can provide pricing choices . I don't necessarily aim for high end options. I remind customers that it sometimes helps to browse design magazine and to visit internet sites such as Houzz.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
It took me a while to realize that I have a natural good eye. I don't have any particular training. My training is from on the job for over 30 years I have managed art galleries and catalogued large art collections. I came across many beautiful homes before I started doing my own interior work. I took inspiration from many of those homes.
