What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Three steps. The first call is free, 30 minutes by phone to hear about the project and tell you honestly whether we are a fit. The on-site visit is $200 where I walk the house, and define the scope, and that $200 comes off your design fee if you go ahead. The design fee is a fixed proposal based on scope, whether that is a kitchen remodel or furnishing a whole house, and it covers space planning, material and finish selections, lighting, and sourcing. Construction is billed by your contractor, and you see their estimate before design starts.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Step one is a call where we talk about the rooms, how you live in them, and a budget range. Step two is a written proposal, including scope, timeline, design fee, and a construction estimate from a contractor we trust if the project needs one. Step three is the work itself, drawings, selections, and a furnishing plan, with me on site at the milestones that matter (demo, rough-in, tile, install). You approve every selection. I handle the vendors and the questions from the crew.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Certification in Interior Design from the Heritage School of Interior Design in Seattle. The parts I use every week, space planning and drafting, so a room works for how you actually live in it; color and lighting, so a palette holds up in gray Seattle light; and construction basics, so I can read a contractor's drawings and catch a problem before the drywall goes up.
