Ryan Matthew Smith

Introduction: I'm a Seattle based photographer and videographer mostly known for food and liquid photography and photo illustration. I also have substantial experience shooting high speed videos, food instructional videos, architecture, travel, nature, and product. I was the principal photographer and photo editor for Modernist Cuisine: the Art and Science of Cooking; photographing about 96% of the original photos taken for the book. Modernist Cuisine won the James Beard Award for Cookbook of the Year in 2011 and was widely praised for the photography styling and technique. I am a cofounder of ChefSteps. ChefSteps is currently nominated for a James Beard Award in 'New Media' for the video series I directed. I shot and edited over 250 videos for the website, as well as writing instructional texts.
