Introduction
I’ve been teaching piano lessons since 2015, and I work with students of all ages and experience levels—from beginners to advanced players preparing for college auditions and competitions. My students have been accepted to top music programs like Eastman and NYU, performed at Essentially Ellington, and regularly place in their schools’ top jazz bands.
What makes my teaching stand out is the combination of deep musical experience and a strong sense of community. I studied with jazz legends Jim Knapp, Dawn Clement, and Jovino Santos Neto, and now lead the Jim Knapp Orchestra. In addition to piano, I teach jazz theory, improvisation, and big band arranging.
I’m passionate about helping each student find their voice. I host regular recitals, attend my students’ performances, and run monthly themed “piano hangs” at my home—giving students the chance to play and connect with others in a creative, supportive environment.

Dylan is a great piano teacher. He is one of the top jazz pianists in the Seattle music scene and brings a breadth of knowledge about modern jazz to his lessons.
Dylan is an organized teacher, taking notes during each lesson and sending a summary shortly after each lesson concludes.
I also appreciate Dylan's recommendations of musicians and recordings to study and learn from. Dylan has introduced me to many amazing modern jazz players that I would not have come across otherwise.

From my very first lesson with Dylan, I felt like I was growing as both a pianist and a musician. He is so intentional about teaching you the toolset you need to have fun and progress from where you’re at. His professionalism is top notch and he is nothing if not on time with lessons and timely with the post-lesson summaries and notes that he sends out for the week. I don’t think you could ask for more if you’re interested in learning about Jazz and becoming more comfortable with piano.

Dylan Hayes is a prodigy. I have worked with him and even have taken a few piano lessons from him. At his young age, his wizardry at the piano never ceases to astound me! He is very versatile in his jazz styles too.

Dylan is a fantastic instructor! He has a knack for identifying the skills I need to develop to keep progressing and he always has fun, musical exercises in mind to work on those skills. Many of our lessons feel like a personal master class on jazz techniques. My playing has improved immensely since I began learning from him. Highly recommend!

Dylan is flat out a fantastic teacher. Part of this stems from his amazing musical ability, so he knows intimately that which he teaches. And added to that he’s a natural teacher and is able to take what he knows and communicate it effectively. Our son has been taking from him for several years, and from the beginning we were impressed with Dylan’s preparation for each lesson. He had a plan of what he would teach each time. And when our son started lessons with Dylan, his ability to improvise just took off. We couldn’t recommend Dylan more highly.
