What is the LLLT Practice Area Curriculum? The LLLT Practice Area Curriculum instructs the LLLT in the specific, detailed knowledge that they will need to practice law in the practice area. The Practice Area Curriculum is offered at the University of Washington School of Law and is co-taught by law professors and family law attorneys. The family law Practice Area Curriculum consists of three five credit classes in family law. What are the LLLT Core Curriculum Requirements? Minimum of an Associate Level Degree 45 credits of core curriculum education at an approved program OR Core Curriculum requirements can be waived with approval of a limited time waiver Associate Level Degree Requirement LLLTs must possess, at minimum, an Associate Level Degree. Any AA degree or any 4+ year degree will fulfill this requirement. LLLT Core Curriculum The LLLT Core Curriculum provides the foundational knowledge that LLLTs need to practice law. LLLT candidates must complete 45 credits of paralegal education at an ABA-approved paralegal program or a program which has been approved by the LLLT Board to offer the core curriculum education. Minimum credit requirements must be met for seven focus areas: Civil Procedure, minimum 8 credits. Contracts, minimum 3 credits. Interviewing and Investigation Techniques, minimum 3 credits. Introduction to Law and Legal Process, minimum 3 credits. Law Office Procedures and Technology, minimum 3 credits. Legal Research, Writing, and Analysis, minimum 8 credits. Professional Responsibility, minimum 3 credits. If the total credits fulfilled by the focus areas total less than 45 credits, additional credits may be fulfilled by taking legal electives.
