Sounds great...but... He showed up first time with helper....then the next two times alone...then he sent the bill---he attempted to collect a "new customer fee" of $75 on top of his (highest in area) charge of $225 for his "premium service", and then--when told I was cancelling--attempted to charge AN ADDITIONAL $65 FOR THE PORTION OF THE FOLLOWING MONTH claiming a "15-day cancellation policy". He finally sent an adjusted invoice--still charging the same fees but removing the following month....but not coming to finish the 4th week of the month as contracted. You figure it out.Oct 23, 2016VerifiedNeighborhood Lawn Care, Inc's reply
I was conducting on the job working interviews of potential employees. Unfortunately, some individuals do not work out. It is completely irrelevant that the following two visits I was without help, as the work paid for was still accomplished. The new customer fee is charged when a property requires extra care to get it to a maintained state. Overgrown grass, overgrown shrubs, heavier initial applications of product all cost more and take more time to apply. A new customer fee is only charged when a property needs extra work to get it to a maintained state. This fee is also explained on the service agreement in bold red lettering so as not to surprise anyone. I've never claimed to offer the cheapest service. Mr. Leighton actually contracted another company before mine but claimed that the other company didn't show up because of a truck breakdown, twice. The cost of operating a business is more than just a lawn mower. We maintain our trucks and equipment to ensure we always show up. Due to scheduling our work weeks we have it clearly stated in the contract that we require a 15-day cancellation policy. This allows for more fluid structuring of weekly schedules, and insures that service expectations are met. Without a cancellation policy it is more likely that an account will be rendered services they did not want, or that an account could be skipped when they expected services. Because Mr. Leighton was so upset we agreed to waive the 15-day policy. Also, because we weren't going to service his property on the last week, we gave him a 25% discount on the bill. He was only charged for services rendered. Because I run an honest business, I pay taxes. It also means we have to charge sales tax on these services. I'm not trying to swindle someone out of their money. I've been in business now for nearly 8 years, with some customers going back to 2010. Our contract is simple and short, all of these complaints, except for the nonissue of how many employees are maintaining a property, could have been understood in advance with a few minutes spent reviewing the contract that Mr. Leighton signed. In the interest of not having to have any increasingly negative interactions, we complied with Mr. Leighton's request to terminate service immediately. It was his request that we stop immediately. There was nothing that was not laid out clearly, and we strive to work with our customers requests.

Thank you for the review Bill! I'm glad that water knocking stopped after replacing those valves. The system should run well for a long time now, though I would recommend winterizing the system every year to be safe. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? It is usually necessary to tailor pricing to individual clients. However, the Standard Package that includes mowing, edging, weed control, and fertilizing starts at $180.00 per month. We also offer auto-payment options to aid our billing and invoicing, which saves everyone time. Our cost is very comparable to what it would cost a homeowner to maintain their own lawn once cost of equipment and maintenance is considered, custom blended high-end fertilizers, quality seed, commercial equipment, etc.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Generally speaking we meet and go over the needs of the customer, be it a business, home, or rental unit. We can scale the needs of the client to fit not only their budget, but their needs as well. We go over what Neighborhood Lawn Care can provide, and we typically learn what they are looking for in a company. From there we write out a proposal and email it off. It usually takes only a couple of days from the call to the customer getting a firm price quote.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I avidly research our field of business. I am never satisfied with what I know. There will always be competitors that are honing their craft, so I have to stay on top of my game as well. Books, magazines, online publications, and blogs are all weekly resources that I utilize to broaden my knowledge of my field.
