Jesse is an amazing vocalist who has an inspiring enthusiasm for helping his clients become a great singers/musicians. In session relaxed and confident because of his approach. even in one session I've learned so much to put me on the path to becoming fantastic at singing. He is a fun guy, very attentive to my individual needs as a vocalist and anybody would be lucky to get such quality lessons at a rate as modest as his.

Equipment was even better than expected. Bobby took time out of his New Year's Eve to stop by the event to give us refresher training, which kept our party going very smoothly . I will definitely use him again the next time I plan an event . In fact I might use him again and then plan an event around it . Thanks for everything bobby b. Your customer service and equipment are top notch . Not only will I be using his services again I will go out of my way to recommend it to friends and family . And if the opportunity arises even strangers . On behalf of my family who we threw the anniversary party for and everyone who attended thanks again . Sincerely, Jeremy W.

Before studying with Deanna... I was less confident overall in my singing, my voice cracked in a lot of places and my range was a bit narrower. The most difficult part about that was singing in front of others and not being quite sure what notes were going to come out of my mouth. The thing about Deanna is that she is very welcoming, supportive and makes you feel comfortable. My biggest insight learned during our lessons was that it is possible to get my voice to be more predictable, the importance of proper breathing and that it really is helpful to record and listen to your own voice. And this was valuable because it's a confidence booster especially during performances. If I had to measure the results I'd say I gained confidence, comfort and knowledge about singing. I'd recommend Deanna to singers that want to stretch the current limits of their voice and feel more confident singing. Thanks so much for this great experience!

Heidi is a gifted singer and vocal coach. Our daughter has had the pleasure of taking voice lessons from Heidi over a period of years and has blossomed under her supervision. Since studying under Heidi our daughter has been presented with many wonderful opportunities including being accepted into a magnet academy for children that are gifted musically, she has auditioned for many musical venues, made state choir and won state in solo for her age group. Heidi teaches creatively, uses positive reinforcement and is highly encouraging....she never gets short with her students and always has effective solutions to offer them when they hit vocal road blocks, enabling them to grow. We highly recommend Heidi to anyone in search of an expert for voice lessons in the Portland, Oregon metro area. Shari G. & Rob B.

Wow, I have to sit down and write this review of Gene Greer and his band, Back Porch Revival, who played this past Sunday at my daughter's wedding reception. We wanted something that was not your run-of-the-mill wedding reception band, and boy, did they deliver. They started the reception with traditional bluegrass and original songs (more "new grassy"), then when we asked them to they stopped and let us get some toasts in. After that, they played two songs that they learned especially for us. Their rendition of "Annual Waltz" for the father-daughter dance was so good that dozens of people got up and waltzed with us. Since everyone was up and dancing they then started in on some up-tempo bluesy, bluegrass and country stuff. They played that second set for 3.5 hours, without a break, and were clearly having as much fun as the 100 or so guests who were dancing and cheering. One of our friends is a pretty good stand-up base player, and they let him play several songs with them. My niece is a club-singer and they let her take the mic and sing a couple of John Prine songs while they backed her up. It was a magical night, and the band was a big part of making the wedding so memorable. So many people came up to me later and complimented us on the great party, and our selection of Gene and his group. Well done, Gene!! I would hire you again in a heartbeat.

I started voice lessons with Bre on a bit of a whim, hoping to get brave enough to sing in blues jam sessions. I am so glad I did! My singing and my confidence are improving steadily, in a way that matches my own individual ambition and goals. Bre is also a blast to work with: she is clearly enjoying our lessons as much as I am, and she makes them fun. And here's an added (unexpected) bonus: The breathing techniques I'm learning from Bre to improve my singing are also a totally amazing stress release!

My parents, their guests, and our family enjoyed the music Dee provided for their party SO MUCH! It’s a week later and people at the Bonaventure are still talking about it – particularly how wonderful the music was. Dee brought back many special memories for the whole group with excellent song selections and beautiful singing. I am very pleased Dee was able to find music for my parents’ favorite songs – it added a personal note and really touched their hearts. The extra effort he went to in finding the music and rehearsing the special songs was really appreciated! I also admire how prepared and organized Dee was with his equipment – It was a quick set up and his attention to safety and access were terrific. It was a very happy occasion for all of us. Dee really added to its specialness.

I originally went to Ky for harmonica lessons in Flagstaff after playing around with the instrument by myself for a couple of years. I wanted to learn how to play music with others. Ky tailored my lessons to me and taught me the basics. He played guitar along with me so I could get used to playing with people. Soon after, I picked up guitar and decided to see him for that as well. He was a great instructor for guitar too! Even for a complete beginner like me. He was very patient and helped me pick songs to master and skills to work on in areas where I needed improvement. Most of all, the lessons were fun and not frustrating! I walked out of each lesson feeling challenged, but accomplished and excited by the music we played. Ky is a very talented musician, teacher, and just a really cool, down to earth guy. Check him out!

Sarah is an amazing singer, I have looked up to her since high school, many years ago. She has done great work from slaying karaoke, leading choir, and performing with me in Dirty Revival. When I have asked her about singing methods, she has given me great advice and is knowledgeable on the topic. It is a pleasure to work with her musically!

Jack is an excellent teacher. He teaches me how to pronounce the vowels and consonant so my voice will blend with other singers. He also teaches me to have good posture when singing. He is always on time. Jack knows a lot about using my voice the right way so he teaches me everything that he knows so that I can use my voice to the best of my ability. He encourages me by letting me know that when I sing, I am conveying a message through singing. He inspires me to do my best.

If you want an R&B/pop female singer who provides both sultry and standout sounds along with real performances, then I'm your girl. I have been taking lessons for over three years. I don't just sing, I provide a show. I entertain. I love singing oldies (50s-80s) and current hits. Anything where I can belt is my favorite, but I can also have a light and breathy sound.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
