    Garage Door Installation or Replacement

The right quote the first time.
Out of 5 companies that responded, only Hutchins provided an accurate quote for what was requested. Upon follow up, their quote was exactly what I wanted and they were able to schedule for the next day even. The person they sent was knowledgeable and got the job done quickly. Very positive experience overall.

    Garage Door Repair
    Verified Review
Hutchins was great and proactive in scheduling and offering free estimates. However, their tech diagnosed that entire garage door would have to be replaced when only he cable was off. This is a growing trend where large companies are simply interested in replacing entire unit, door and opener for larger margins on the time invested. They do not try to repair existing problem eve. If possible. I would appreciate if they would give me all feasible options or repair and replace.

Type Hi Yuvaraj, Thank you for your time to review us. Honestly we would rather repair your door than replace it but unfortunately your door has more issues than just a detached cable. The top section of your door is damaged due in part to the broken cable and the style being ripped away from the left side top section. It is damaged to the point that if we did patch or attempt a proper repair, we could not guarantee door safety. Also the manufacture of your door is no longer in business so replacing the top section is not an available option. Because we are ultra-safety conscious and follow Pro IDA guidelines, it would be unwise to recommend a temporary patch job that we know would be unsafe and that would not be warrantable. At Hutchins we are a small family owned business that warranties our labor and parts for 3 years, and we stand behind our work. We would never offer a solution to anyone if we knew it to be unwise. Our quotes are free, competitive and we adhere to high standards. When you received a quote for replacement, please know we are not targeting larger margins; it is because we believe it is the best option, the safe option, in the long run the most economical option for you and the right thing to do. We will be happy to further discuss and help you with your garage door needs. Thank you Dan your response to this review.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We first would like to know what your needs are and what is most important to you. Are you looking for a simple repair to a garage door or opener? Do you need a replacement or upgrade? After a brief discussion we now can explore the best fit for your specific needs both economically and aesthetically.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our technicians have many years of experience in the field servicing residential and commercial customers. We regularly attend seminars and workshops to keep up with the very latest trends and newest products available.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here.
Quotes for our services and products are free. There are hundreds of options available to our customers from looking for a simple repair to a new door or opener. But as a rule our customers can get a very well built new Raynor 8'x7' garage door installed for approx $433 and new LiftMaster openers installed for approx $359. There is no one size fits all and everyone's needs will be different such as color and finish, or wood grain, type of windows if desired and size of door. Repairs typically run an average of $79 to $98 depending on the work to be done plus parts. Note that all of our quotes are free.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started with my cousin who is a master garage door technician and who has a well established garage door sales and service company. I got my start learning from a master and continue to learn as new and improved products become available every day.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Home owners, home builders, realtors, property owners, businesses and commercial customers.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
Recently we had a customer who had a garage door which was worn out and in need of replacement. She had a 16x7 almond color, non insulated steel door with an opener which was working erratically. One concern she had was the room above the garage which would get unbearably warm in the summer months. She wanted to upgrade the look of the home with a new style wood grain door. We were able to install a new insulated walnut grain door and then repair her opener, and did it under her budget. She is thrilled that we were able to meet her needs and get it done within a week. She now has a new door and a cooler garage which makes the room above the garage useful in the warmer and cooler weather. We are happy that she was totally satisfied and that we were able to help.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Get your quotes from and established pro who will guarantee their work and their products. Seek a garage door business with a showroom location that you can visit and choose from a variety of doors and openers. Purchase from an established business that you know will be here in the future should they be needed and look for a reputable company where you can form a relationship, build trust, receive a warranty and truly be appreciated for your business.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
What do I want? Do I want a basic door or do I want to kick it up a notch or two? What do I need? Does the door need to be insulated, with our without windows and with or without an opener? When do I need it? What is your time frame to install something new or simple update the existing door? Will the company be here in the future if needed? What are the warranties and guaranties? Do you have references? Not all doors are created equal so be sure to learn who manufactures the door, where is it manufactured and what make one door or operator better than the other?
