- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My approach always begins with conversations with the customer/client to determine the purpose of the event or project as well as the desired underlying message to be conveyed to the audience. I provide free copies of my books to meeting planners that hire me so they have a feel for the unique perspective I bring to my material. I also give out copies of my books during keynotes and seminars. Professional associations are one of my largest market segments. I follow up with customers/clients to help them (1) Retain existing members; (2) add to the membership roster; and (3) help them find other revenue-generating options besides annual dues.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.S. in Geology; worked on an M.S. in Geochemistry. Over my 30-year career, I have held hiring manager positions for Fortune 500 companies (Phillips Petroleum, Motorola, Intel, and others), worked for the federal government (U.S. Department of Commerce-NOAA), and taught at the university level (University of Houston Downtown College, Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics). I am also the author of two award-winning career strategy books: Confessions of a Hiring Manager Rev. 2.0 (Second Edition) which was the WINNER of the 2012 International Book Award for Business/Careers, and the GOLD MEDAL WINNER of the 2012 Global eBook Award for Employment/Careers; Strategic Career Engagement: The Definitive Guide for Getting Hired and Promoted, which was the RUNNER UP of the 2016 International Book Award for Business/Careers, and the SILVER MEDAL WINNER of the 2016 Global eBook Award for Employment/Careers. I was on the debate team in college, began public speaking as a member of the Phillips Petroleum Energy Speakers Bureau (1981-1984), was very involved with Toastmasters International (1983-1991) as a competitive speaker and serving in leadership roles.
