FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I work by the hour. I do offer a free half-hour consultation, to begin work, get to know you, get a sense of the scope of the overall project and how much it will cost. I charge $45 an hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
While I’m flexible, I do have a simple process that helps us to be productive. First off, I want to be clear about the project, the task, and its objectives. So I will need information, and I'll ask some questions (purpose of the project? intended audience? desired outcomes or results of this project? how you, the client, define "success"?). Of course I'm happy to answer any questions, too. It's best to establish a project outline before getting to work. We can do this online, through email, or over the phone.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA from UC Berkeley. After that, I received an MFA in English from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. I also have formal copyediting experience, having worked for university presses in that capacity. I've published two books of fiction (a novel and a short-story collection) and numerous articles. Recently I've been writing nonfiction, with a more scholarly slant. I taught for eight years at UCLA as an Instructor in Writing Programs, which is a division of the English Department, and so I have experience in working with students on both short essays and longer projects. I have also tutored students outside of the classroom setting, both online and in person.
