Introduction: Hi! I'm Jocelyn Broadwick. I'm a freelance writer, editor, and tutor from Baltimore, Maryland. My work has been published locally, nationally, and internationally in print and online. I earned my MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Goucher College. Previously, I ran the Writing Center at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. I love working with people of all ages on their writing projects and have experience working with academic, business, creative, professional, scientific, and technical writing. I'm well-versed in APA, AMA, MLA, and Chicago styles and received my 40-Hour Online Teaching English as a Foreign Language Educator Certificate from BridgeTEFL. I am qualified to assist with all aspects of the writing process including brainstorming, outlining, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading. In addition, I can help with any piece of writing in any field such as essays, research papers, master's theses, dissertations, book manuscripts, journal articles, literature reviews, abstracts, proposals, and more! I also review resumes, CVs, cover letters, query letters, personal statements, and residency applications. Jocelyn is very clear, and easy to work with. I'm in graduate school and was needed help following the current APA guidelines. She is fast but effective. She is fantastic at editing help and will work with you either online, or on the phone, we are in different time zones but she was quite accommodating. I recommend her with your writing or editing needs. Not great about weekend times and unfortunately all my work is due Sundays. One week I really needed her twice, huge overwhelming final paper. I said in two texts twice, on Tuesday and again on Thursday, I need you twice and subjected days. She said she could only give me Sunday. Ok, on Sunday I really needed another half hour...I was willing to pay...just about anything! She refused, stating that I should have let her know in advance. I did, twice, in texts, but was a bit unsure of how much time...?? Sometimes we can't be exact. It was a rough week, a finals week. I had to scan all over Portland two hours before my paper was due for another tutor... to ask a few more questions. I felt she could have been more flexible. It felt cold. So, that made me look for another tutor. Flexibility is important to me. Everything is not black and white. Other than that she is a good tutor.

I have since revised my availability to exclude nights and weekends as I tend to be quite limited in my capacity to work with students during those times. What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $30/hr for writing tutoring, proofreading, and general editing. For dissertation editing, I charge $60/hr. In addition, I charge $50 for cover letters and $100 for resumes.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to take time to get to know my clients, ensuring that I understand who they are and what they're asking for. Once I feel like I have a complete understanding of a project, I get to work. I like to keep my clients updated on my progress and am committed to meeting our mutually agreed upon deadlines. If I have any questions or need more information, I'll be sure to reach out. My favorite part of my job is being able to return work that exceeds my clients' expectations. If you're not satisfied, then I'm not finished.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned my MFA in Creative Nonfiction Writing from Goucher College. In addition, I have 5 years of experience working in both undergraduate and graduate writing centers. I'm also certified to Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) through BridgeTEFL and am a member of the Professional Editors Network.
