FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I use the Editorial Freelance Association's common editorial rates, regardless of whether a project is flat rate or hourly. These should be used only as a rough guideline; rates vary considerably depending on the nature of the work, the time frame of the assignment, the degree of special expertise required, and other factors.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The customer sends me details of what they want done or the actual Word document (for editing) or the idea (for writing). I then assess the amount of work involved, and provide a quote. I require a 50% deposit before commencement of the project, which will be fully refunded if the client isn't satisfied or for any reaso. I also ask for a deadline to ensure that I can meet it. I will edit a Word doc with track changes enabled so that the customer can see my changes and accept or reject them. From there I work with the client until they are satisfied with the result.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have 20 years of experience as a magazine editor, managing editor, assistant editor, and freelance writer/editor.
