Introduction: Pleased to meet you! My name is Tenley Garrett and I am the founder of Take 10 Productions, my personal production business for video, photo, literary and graphic design projects. As a Visual Communications major at the University of North Carolina with a specialization in photojournalism, I have maintained an enduring passion for the visual arts, working with clients for more than 5 years to produce promotional videos for fundraising campaigns, photograph for a variety of needs– including elopements, graduation portraits, real estate, and public events– and design graphics tailored to clients' branding specifications. I have an uncanny ability to put just about any client at ease. I'm conversational, outgoing, reliable, time-efficient, courteous and professional. But above all, I'm eager and enthusiastic to start my next collaboration!
I feel satisfied and fulfilled in my work when it's clear that I have pinpointed exactly what it is my client expects of me, and when the product I deliver is proof of clear and thorough communication between both parties. But I feel most satisfied when I know that my client is just ecstatic about what we've made together. I love my job because of the creative space I'm given to expand my ideas and let the project evolve as my client requires. Between March and August of 2017, I worked for the International Organization for Migration (IOM), a leading UN intergovernmental organization in the field of migration, to produce media content in the form of video, photo and graphic design within their branding framework. My favorite project was a promotional video for a developing app designed to help connect locals interested in volunteering their time to engage with the refugee community. I was given complete creative control over the project, and though that leeway itself was initially daunting, my colleagues and supervisor would later tell me that this project was by far my best. I believe this is due to the fact that I was able to direct, film, design a storyboard, tailor the script, conceptualize motion graphics, and finally produce something that I could call my own. My turnaround time (the time between filming and producing a polished video) was less than 24 hours, something I had rarely done before. From this, I learned that I excel when given creative authority and (at least partial) ownership of my work.
