At Gould K-9 our mission is to get your dog to be the best that they can be. Along this journey, we teach you what to do and how to handle various situations. We find that a lot of the angst between Owner and Dog stems from a lack of clear communication, boundaries and rules. We are here to help you open the lines of communication and establish rules and boundaries that will be clear and easy for your dog to understand.
Just a little bit about Gould K9's training style. We are a balanced training company, which means we use tools such as E-Collars, Prong Collars, Treats, and Clickers. We also do Positive only methods. Being a Balanced Trainer means we also believe that when a dog does something we like they should be rewarded for it in some way, every single time. Its kinda like why we go to work, for a pay check. That is our reward. If we stopped getting a pay check, we more than likely would also stop going to work, right? So We believe that dogs Need their "paycheck". But the opposite holds true, when the dog something unacceptable, they need to be corrected and told it isn't going to be permitted. So, when a dog exhibits an unwanted behavior they need clear guidance that it is unwanted. That guidance comes in the form of a "correction" which can be a gentle E-collar tap or a slight bump with a prong collar. The more consistently you give information and guidance to the dog the less you will see that unwanted behavior, thus getting rid of it completely. A dog will continue to do something until consistently told they are not supposed to, but they must be told in a way they understand and respect. My praise or reward for wanted behavior comes in many forms. In the beginning of training reward usually involves food and verbal praise, and then is phased out to verbal praise only. I wean dogs off food rewards because I don't want to carry food around with me all the time, and I know there may come a time where I need my dog to listen and I won't have food.
