Tim contacted me regarding a plumbing job and offered a competitive price if I provide a good review afterwards. I decided to hire Tim based on price and the fact that since he doesn't have any reviews yet perhaps I could help him get a start. This was a $65 job and while arranging details I reiterated that in my project post I stated "payment would be made separately". I offered mailing him a payment or digital (immediate) payment via Google Wallet or Paypal immediately after my tenant confirms the work is completed. Tim requested that I meet him at the property afterwards because he's been "burned" before. I found this insulting to be accused of potentially not paying a $65 bill on a rental unit that rents for $1,350/mo. Contractors should demand Thumbtack offer review ratings for customers (that customers themselves need not see) so that those of us who honestly and appreciatively pay for work done do not have to deal with this (for lack of a better word) crap.

Be careful of profiles that don't have any reviews! The first time Tim came out he replaced the shower head for $30. The next time I called him back to fix a toilet that will not flush. He said he would look at it for $65. He looks at the toilet, used his snake and said the toilet needs to be replaced. I gave him $180 cash which he said he would use to buy a new toilet and and $65 dollars for showing up, well that was the end of it. I have not head back.

FAQs

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

typical should be. I will either give the best estimate via thumbtack or look at the job and give a cost then. ALL WORK IS C.O.D. which means I do the job 100% then get paid 100% at time of service I'm sorry some think this is unacceptable that I should for better lack of words loan them $ to fix thier house. You will know and agree to everything before I even touch a tool. You will know what it cost no surprises. thank you for your understanding.
