Ryan Roofing & Home Improvements LTD's reply
This individual contacted me in need of roof repairs. So after a few calls and messages my business partner and I came out to address the roof issues and properly quote the job. Apparently Kevin had called in an insurance claim(which is what we specialize in) and then called out a "handyman" who conducted the roof repair with three different colors of shingles to which he charged $400 according to Kevin, keep in mind also that his insurance company paid out approximately $1000 for the damage. My partner and I preceded to discuss a reasonable price with Kevin who continued to grossly low ball us. In an effort to help Kevin protect his property and recoup his losses from the previous "handyman"we offered to do the roof repair for $250 with 50% down and Kevin was responsible for purchasing said materials. This was easily a $700 repair job, however we quoted low with the understanding as per our signed contingency agreement and assignment of insurance claim form that we were going to supplement the insurance company and get a readjustment as to get the roof and aluminum siding bought by the insurance company. Last Friday we collected $120(slightly less than 50% as per our contact) and I drove to the supply company with Kevin(so that he could pick a close match to existing shingles as per our agreement and his wishes) where he refused to pay for the materials and claimed that he thought that the materials were included in the total price. I purchased the materials and we returned to Kevin's house, by that time my partner had completely removed the mismatched shingles which were to be replaced(this represented 50% of the repair job) Kevin then asked us to remove an old direct tv satellite dish on the rear slope(not included in our quote and/or discussed) after a somewhat lengthy process to carefully remove the satellite, Kevin then states that the shingles purchased were not a close enough match. With the supply company now closed and the weather shifting for a potential rain, we installed tarps to weather the roof and planned to return the next day and asked Kevin if we could leave our ladder as the materials took up most of the space in our vehicle and Kevin said he would have no problem putting our ladder in his basement. Some things came up and we couldn't make it back to complete the repair till Tuesday. When I arrived at Kevin's house I see that our tarps were removed and replaced and there was another roofer there. At that point Kevin said he wanted to cancel and wouldn't return my ladder unless I refunded his deposit. After several attempts to collect my ladder I was forced to call the police, at which time he still refused to return my ladder until the police were about to charge him criminally with unauthorized use of property. Kevin then went inside his home and returned with my ladder stating that I could have it back if I gave him $50 dollars, the cops looked as though they were reaching for their cuffs and Kevin immediately slams my ladder on the sidewalk. Hours later I see a negative slanderous review on thumbtack from Kevin to which I've paid thumbtack a fee to quote this individual and ended up losing money and time. Please remove Kevin's slanderous review...this is the type of guy that would take a date to the fish market and run up a $200 tab and then complain about everything to the manager and create a scene until his meal is comped or significantly discounted. Thanks, Tony
