Introduction: I completely understand the tug-of-war that happens when trying to find a photographer, especially when on a budget. You debate hiring a photographer because you know how expensive it will be. You want quality work but don't want to pay the premium price. You say "engagement" or "wedding" and the price magically jumps up by a few hundred. Photography is not a full time job for me (I'm a pediatric speech therapist during the week), so it being mostly my hobby, I am able to be more flexible on my pricing. Primarily though, I see it as a gift to my clients. Helping them save money for other interests in their lives. I've been taking pictures since I can remember, and have always loved those moments between poses, candid moments. To me it's never just been a photo. It's a story. I have had opportunities to shoot weddings and quinceaneras down in Mexico, along with partaking in several workshops down there and in the states. I adore the opportunities of meeting new people and helping them tell their stories. I cannot wait to help capture a part of your journey as well.

My fiancé and I got our engagement photos taken by Joanne and we are are so in love with them! Setting up a time was super easy, and Joanne’s personality is very fun and easy going; we aren’t the biggest fans of taking photos but she made it easy and natural.

Joanne was very approachable and easy to work with. Being a guy’s guy I’m not about taking posed pictures but Joanne was good at not being overly involved and let us be “us” and capture those natural poses which made it feel like a friend was hanging with us and not a stranger with a big camera. Joanne is a skilled and amazing photographer! She really knows how to set her subjects up based on location, was able to recommend great places for photos, and was able to work with my family. Without a doubt, she has a natural eye for photography. Beyond that, she's also very personable and can make anyone feel comfortable. She also did my professional head shots for residency. Many of my interviewers (now employers) remarked on the high quality and uniqueness of my application photo.

Joanne took photos during our wedding reception and we absolutely adore the photographs! She was so patient while guiding us two photo-taking newbies on where to look and how to stand, but we always felt natural and comfortable instead of awkward, stiff, and posed. It shows in her photos! She was able to perfectly capture the relaxed and joyful feeling of our day through her creative shots and perfectly chosen backdrops. Joanne was very professional and respectful, but so fun and down to earth--she made me feel like we've already been friends for a lifetime :). What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It's a gift from me to you to meet your needs at a reasonable price. I know there are higher financial priorities :)
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Typically I would like to meet a couple beforehand and get a feel for who they are and the style they are going for/poses we will take.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've taken 2 workshops (Photography in Natural Light down in Mexico and Portrait Photography in Las Colinas, Irving). Photography has always been pretty natural for me. I never felt the need to go and take courses.
