- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have standard rates for most of the services I provide but I always try to be flexible bc no two customers are exactly alike so there's just no way to be successful at this unless you can adjust the prices based on each customer's wants and needs. I also try to work to find solutions for customers who may be on a tighter budget. If a customer says they want me to do the work but they just can't fit my price into their budget, I'll do everything in my power to figure out a way to make it happen. In the end, I have to be fair to myself as well, so I'm not always able to work it out. But if there's a viable option, I'm going to find it.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Once a customer has indicated that they would like for me to do the work, I try to schedule a convenient time to visit and do a walk through. I can do it over the phone although it's a bit more challenging. This is because the walk through tells me quite a bit about the client as well as the work to be done and much of it comes from seeing the client in the environment the work is to be done in. Much of that is lost or muddied when you only have the phone conversation to go off of. After the walk through, I make a project proposal and present it to the client for approval. The client approves it or if there are any items the client has issue with, the client marks those and makes note of the issue with each. Once the client has accepted the proposal and/or we have come to an agreement on everything, and it's signed off on by us both, work begins.
