FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My standard pricing is $60/hour. This fee includes the hour that I work with my student face-to-face, but it also includes "touch-up lessons", as I call them. If a student has a question or any confusion while doing homework, he or she may contact me with follow-up emails, phone calls, and/or texts at NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. I am very accessible and guarantee same-day replies.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My typical process includes a basic proficiency test (for those who have had some French exposure). For students with no prior knowledge, I start with the basics, of course, and I use a combination of approaches in order to reach every type of language-learner. We are all different types of learners: auditory, visual, kinesthetic, or a combination of two or three. I need to first determine the type of learner(s) in order to utilize the most effective methodologies and achieve success. Lessons include a variety of activities, including TPR games and story-telling, story-writing, poetry, songs, monologues, dialogues, presentations, etc.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied French language and literature at SUNY Stony Brook and la Sorbonne in Paris. While in Paris, I lived in the 16th arrondissement with the Frey family. Upon my return to the U.S., I earned my degree and started working as a French translator for Bader TV News Services. I worked freelance for a couple of years before landing my first French teaching job in an exclusive private school. At that time, I taught students in grades K-8, sponsored a French club, taught enrichment classes, and tutored privately in the evenings. When I moved to Florida, I began teaching high school French classes: regular, honors, AP, MYP, and IB. I was the sponsor/advisor for French Club and National French Honor Society for eight years. Over the years, I have created and participated in numerous French events, including International Café, World Language Fair, and French Immersion Weekend.
