Introduction: As a credentialed math teacher and experienced test preparation tutor, I have the experience and education necessary to help you or your child excel in math classes and standardized tests. I am available for all levels of K-12 mathematics, including college algebra courses. I love working to help people gain more confidence in math. Tutoring should just be about completing homework, so I spend my sessions instructing, assessing, and practicing in order to help my student become a more independent learner. The best tutor should work to become unnecessary for the student.

Very flexible and well suited to tutor many math concepts that either need to be brushed up on or completely taught from square one. Was able to quickly change teaching methods depending on what worked and what didn't.

I recently went back to school and needed some help reviewing math for my college algebra class. There was a lot of material we were expected to know that I has forgotten because of the break I took from school. Jocelyn helped me find the gaps I had, filled them, and showed me how they applied to the work I was doing in class. Everything finally made sense, and I got an A in the class! Thank you Jocelyn!

I hired Jocelyn to help my son with homework completion. I was tired of having the fight every night about doing homework, so I looked for help elsewhere. It was amazing how quickly they could complete the homework together, and how willing my son was to complete the homework with Jocelyn. It helped our family a lot, because it ended the constant fights.

Jocelyn was a huge help when I was studying for the ACT! My score jumped by five points, from a 26 to 31! The week before the test she helped me outline an essay, and it turned out the prompt was really similar to the one we had practiced. I was able to write the essay easily and I ended up earning a 10!

I had to take business calculus this last semester, and I called up Jocelyn even though I was out-of-state because I had so much success with her in high school! We were able to do online sessions, and I was amazed with how comfortable Jocelyn was using the online interface. It really felt like she was there with me, and I didn't have any issues focusing or understanding the material she went over.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a lot of experience working as an ACT and SAT tutor from the time I spent working at a tutoring company. Along with that experience, I have a Masters of Education and teaching credentials in both math and science. I have two years of classroom instruction under my belt, but I have found that I enjoy the impact I can make tutoring one-on-one even more!

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I have always been very passionate about math and helping people to understand it. In fact, as a 5th grader, I raced through the curriculum and became a TA in the classroom. I assisted my teacher in answering my peers' questions! This continued throughout high school and college, and culminated in getting a Masters of Education and entering the classroom!

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

When looking for a tutor, it is important that you find someone who can help you or your student learn AND apply the material. Many tutors do one or the other, but struggle to find the balance between instructing a student and having the student practice independently. When looking for an academic tutor (especially in math) ask about the tutor's comfort with the Common Core curriculum, as this is very different from what was being taught only three years ago.
