Counseling goals
Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I work with couples, families, and individuals who wish to address emotional, relational and identity conflict. I tailor my treatment to the unique needs of each client, using collaborative approaches based on theory in family systems, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and other evidence-based approaches. I am sex-positive, and LGBTIQ-friendly. I take great pride helping clients reach goals, conquer difficult social/emotional/relational problems, be heard and understood, and grow their relationships. I believe in the power of relationship to be a source of great fulfillment, affirmation, and healing. Conversely, relationship which is (or has been) dysfunctional or lacking, can lead to tremendous individual and shared pain in a relational system. I aim to foster growth in relational connectedness, while promoting respect for the individual needs of each person with whom I work.

When I first started working with Spencer, I had reservations about therapy due to previous experiences which I found to be... less than helpful. Over the course of around a year, Spencer helped me to develop techniques that would allow me to redirect my mind from the things that were causing me a great deal of depression and anxiety. This man has literally seen me at my worst and best, and aimed to provide me with support for either extreme. Some of the most challenging times of my life we're discussed with Spencer, and he was always open and non-judgmental. This is not to say, however, that Spencer is a "yes-man" therapist, and he frequently encouraged me to look at both sides of an interaction where I was struggling to see all points of view included. Long story short, if you want an understanding and compassionate therapist who will also help you challenge yourself to overcome the issues you're struggling with, Spencer is an excellent choice.

Spencer was excellent during our premarital counseling and he made us feel at ease. He made it easy to talk and feel like a safe environment to do so. Definitely recommend him to anyone!

Spencer was a great resource for my husband and I as we went through pre-marriage counseling. He was professional, calm, asked good questions, and had a sense of humor (which can be really helpful!). He was especially good at getting my husband, who is not used to being asked to share his feelings, to feel comfortable and really benefit from the experience personally as well. Highly recommend!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My cash/card/check rates are $80 for individuals and $90 for couples. I am in-network for Premera, Aetna, Regence, Blue Cross Blue Shile, and Molina, and aim to use insurance benefits whenever possible.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to have a brief phone call or e-mail to explore if the client and I are a strong fit. If we are, my initial appointment is a 90-minute "intake" in which I get a broad view of the client's concerns and develop a treatment plan. After that, each appointment is 60 minutes, unless specifically arranged otherwise.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

BS in psychology from University of Oregon (2008) MS in Marriage and Family Therapy (2016)
