FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
We give you a final price before we sign a contract. We do not sell do-it-yourself projects, meaning our installers won't ask for additional fees when they arrive. So, for carpet, the price per square yard includes: * The carpet * Waterproof 7/16" #6 lb padding * Tack strips * Seams * Removal and haul away of the old carpet and pad * Furniture movement and reset (Note, we do not move aquariums, musical instruments and china closets must be empty before we move them). To that we add extras like: * Steps * Transitions * Baseboard & toe * Subfloor repairs * Movement of appliances (Note we do not move gas appliances) Hidden problems are not included, for example, on one job when we moved a fridge, we discovered that the fridge had leaked and the subfloor was rotted and needed to be replaced--that was an additional charge. If the homeowner had known about the problem and told us, we could have included the cost of those repairs in our original quote.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We start with a phone call and then we visit the customer's location to measure and show samples. This usually takes one visit and you are scheduled for new flooring. Specifically: We try to determine what the customer needs or wants over the phone. So, we will ask you if you have kids, pets, eat in the living room and what your budget is. Next, we schedule to meet at your location and assess all the special needs. That way when we show you samples we have a baseline for the price and the only variable that changes between samples is the cost of the specific flooring. Usually, this is just a single trip, but sometimes we have to try again. That is why it is important for us to get as much information about you, your home or business and how you use it.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
John Brown Carpet has been in business for over 46 years. We are certified to removed asbestos. Myself personally, I am a third generation carpenter. I don't have as many years in the carpet business, but my experience with buildings helps me see potential problems long before our installers call to tell us about a surprise problem.
