Elwood Grier Bio For the past seven years Elwood Grier has been an invaluable asset to Youth Enrichment Services (YES). Elwood is an extremely talented artist whose generosity truly knows no bounds. Over the years his creative ingenuity has echoed through the many different events and projects that he has been a part of. When Elwood first came to YES, he was volunteering his time and expertise to mentor youth in the summer to teach them different art forms. He dedicated hours of his time showing the youth how to sketch, draw, paint and use their imagination to think outside the box and be creative. Using his attention to detail, Elwood was able to individually guide the youth when needed so that they were able to create beautiful works of art. A staple at the West Islip County Fair and other community events, parents and children alike come by year after year for a chance to have an authentic “Mr. Elwood” face painting design. There is always a line and a crowd waiting and watching Elwood as he takes the time to make unique and original designs that bring colossal smiles to the children’s faces. Elwood has also lent his expertise and savvy as a graphic artist to design the t-shirts used by the Clean Streets program for their community clean up events. His designs have also been showcased at the Disney Kaboom playground where Elwood worked tirelessly to hand draw and paint a banner to thank Disney and Kaboom for generously creating the playground. He meticulously drew detailed portraits of not only Disney characters for the banner, but also an exquisite rendition of Walt Disney himself. Elwood’s altruistic nature truly shows when he is working with kids in the after school programs. No matter the reason for his visit, Elwood never leaves a program without sitting down with at least one youth participant and working with them on some sort of drawing or art piece. He is extremely patient when working with the youth and brings art into the lives of those who might not otherwise have the opportunity. He fosters their learning in ways that allow them to shine and be able to express themselves in different ways. Elwood’s dedication and hard work shows in everything that he does and it would be impossible for our events and the programs that he is involved in to be a success. He came to my daughter's first birthday party he was very sweet took the time out to let every kid choose what they wanted. I was very satisfied and happy that I chose him he's definitely a great choice for anyone looking to do a party for a child he's on time and very polite so if you're looking for a place face painter Elwood is your guy

We had a painting party for 30 kids at home. All kids and parents loved it very much! Everyone had a blast painting! Elwood is very patient, organized and friendly teacher. Kids paintings came out very well! My friends will be hiring Elwood for their kids events too now! I am so glad that I hired Elwood!

Elwood Grier designed the cover art for my chapbook. I was so pleased I sought him out for the cover of my full length nonfiction text God’s Daughter (JonesInk, 2010). The art work stood out in such a way, when I attended book shows and signings, other attendee’s initial compliments would be on the cover’s frame worthy design. My most recent project was a face painting event at the West Islip Country fair Sunday September 24, 2017. It seemed like the whole community came out in support of the event. The kids had such great time and the weather was great.
