FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It generally depends on the level of student and task being asked to teach. If college level math is involved I will charge more than I would for an elementary student that needs help with reading.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I initially try to determine what they know so far and what they need to work on. I asses their abilities to problem solve and think outside of their current understanding. I also try to recognize how to best motivate and encourage the student.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm just about to graduate with my B.S. and continue to a PhD program in biomedical sciences. I also work in a microbiology laboratory and have extensive experience with biology, chemistry, physics, and statistics as a result. Reading comprehension and writing is a large part of research and I have had to cultivate those skills as well. My biggest strength when it comes to tutoring is remembering what it was like to not understand the subject. I'm able to break the ideas down for students to understand the materials more easily.
