I have had Amy as a choir director and as a private voice instructor, and have been impressed with her from the first moment we met. Amy really knows how to relate to her students. I am not your traditional student (due to the fact that I’m in my 40s), yet Amy explains things so well in a way that I can remember and apply the new knowledge. She stretches me and challenges me, making me improve more than I ever expected. I always leave my voice lesson feeling challenged yet pleased with what I have learned. Amy has also been my teenage daughter’s instructor (during the last part of high school). According to her voice professors at the University, my daughter entered her freshman year with excellent technique. We can thank Amy for that. Amy also taught my daughter basic music theory (as extra paid sessions), allowing my daughter to begin her music theory college course with more knowledge than her peers. My daughter will continue training under Amy during the summer breaks. While Amy conducts herself in a very professional manner, she also has a sincere concern for each student’s well-being. She is a teacher who cares and has a positive impact on all who interact with her.

I got to work with Amy for about 3 years and my only regret is that I didn’t start sooner. I began lessons being extremely shy and self conscious with small voice, and Amy guided me not only through literally finding my voice, but finding my voice of spiritual and emotional expression, completely transforming me as a performer. When you work with Amy, expect her to always do the “silly” things with you, to “hoot” everyday, and to uncover the root of the what and why of your sound. Amy also does a wonderful job introducing the sides of vocal performance that are crucial for those who want to pursue their voice professionally. As I progressed, I was expected to learn the translations of my foreign language pieces; define or translate all unknown musical terms in the pieces I studied; write short program notes regarding my pieces for concert; performance and audience etiquette; and study and perform 20-30 minutes of a variety of music for a senior recital. All of the skills mentioned I am expected to fulfill as a college student studying voice. Overall, Amy is a terrific teacher who successfully transforms students of all experience levels into well-rounded performers through personal connection and understanding of the human body and mind.

I was an Ovation Voice Studio student during my four years in high school, and I cannot express enough how much I loved my time learning from Amy. She is an incredibly skilled vocalist and teacher, and because of her I grew so much in my own musicianship and vocal abilities. Her focus on proper technique alongside vocal health ensured I was able to grow my own abilities and protect the instrument of my voice, setting a solid vocal foundation. She always challenged me, while gently supporting me through those challenges I faced as a vocalist. She fostered a healthy relationship with performance; as a perfectionist, it was easy for me to feel inadequate with the work I was doing, but she helped me see ways to acknowledge my own growth and be satisfied and proud of the ways I grew while still striving for more. She also supported me as a whole person, not just as a singer, by asking how I was doing and encouraging me personally and not just musically. Being Amy's student was a truly enriching and rewarding experience that I will always cherish. I couldn't recommend the quality instruction, guidance, and support of Ovation Voice Studios more! Whether you are hoping to take lessons to learn more just for fun or hoping to work towards a future in music, I believe Amy is one of the best out there.

Amy Gatschenberger was my voice lessons teacher for two years in high school. Not only did she help me improve my voice enough to get into the top choir offered at my school, she also helped my gain confidence in not only my voice, but in myself as a human being. Amy was always positive with me, even when either of us were having bad days. It was pretty easy to get in touch with her if something came up and I couldn't make practice. She always understood that school came first. Amy has a very bright personality that makes learning from her not only educational, but fun as well. I couldn't recommend her more!

Amy has really helped me reach potential. I never though I could sing very high but with training, we were able to achieve it! She takes time to help her students perfect their songs and learn from previous mistakes. During the time around Solo and Ensemble, she kept reassuring me that although a high score is great, the real lesson to take from the contest is to learn and grow as a musician.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I’ve studied music since I was a child- I’ve just always loved it. I did every music group possible in High School and then studied music in college and graduate school.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I’ve worked with so many customers: High School choir students, worship leaders, adult learners exploring a dream, those with long or short term goals, and even people experiencing vocal issues. I love the variety- no matter who you are- I’d encourage you to give it a try!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
A voice teacher is more than just a warm body. The voice is intensely personal. Voice lessons are not just learning to sing, but are also “people lessons”- it’s about learning to have confidence to work hard and then present your skill to the world. I’d encourage you to look for someone who can support you in that bigger goal!
