Tutoring with Vera

Introduction: I offer tutoring beginning to intermediate math and science and intermediate to advanced English, history, creative writing, and critical thinking. After skipping two grades to graduate a distinguished Colorado prep school at 16, I went to the University of Southern California through their Residental Honors Program, an elite program of the top 20 high school juniors in the country wishing to go directly to college. There I completed their Thematic Options program, a rigorous multidisciplinary course with an emphasis in the humanities. I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Music Industry (I am also a working musician with music on TV). I have been teaching music since I was a teenager. For the last five years I have consulted as an editor for online and print media in Los Angeles, and I have always tutored fellow classmates, participating in a group of top students in my high school who volunteered to teach our peers. Thumbtack has been such a great way to meet new music students, I've decided to reach out to offer my services as a multisubject tutor as well. Frankly, as one of the 'smart kids' growing up, sharing my understanding of subject material was a way I could both relate to my peers and help improved their confidence in an area of knowledge, so I naturally enjoyed doing so. Love of learning and love of sharing learning stuck with me; I like guiding someone else through the steps of grasping an elusive subject, be it college level and professional writing or basic math. In my work across several disciplines, and in the discipline of raising my toddler, it's something I've done consistently. I do feel like there is a trick to it: once you get through the struggle, the spoils have gotta be rewarding - so it doesn't hurt to have fun with it - whatever it is!
