Hired on Thumbtack

Hired on Thumbtack

Where to begin… When I posted my Thumbtack project to make 4 Euro Shams and 2 pillows out of the material I would be providing the price offered was $85 plus the cost of zippers. I met with Barbara at her studio in Pflugerville. We went over every single pillow to be made. She wrote it all down and said they would be ready in 2 weeks. The day they were supposed to be ready I called to make sure they were in fact ready before I drove from S. Austin to Pflugerville. She said she wasn’t working that day, but never called to let me know. I’m glad I didn’t drive all the way up there. I met with her the next day. 2 of the Euro Shams were ready. 1 is slightly larger than the other. I have to bunch the 2 inches of extra fabric on the bottom of the Euro Sham when I put it on the bed. The 2 smaller pillows (~17x17) turned out good. The other 2 Euro Shams were not made. She “thought” I wanted a 3rd 17x17 pillow made out of that fabric… Even though we laid the fabric out in her studio during my initial visit to make sure we had enough to make 2 Euro Shams with the same fabric front and back. I paid her $100. The $85 she agreed to for 6 pillow plus zippers. Barbara said the other 2 Euro Shams would be ready in 4 days. I was concerned that we wouldn’t have enough fabric to make the other 2 Euro Shams after she mistakenly made the 17x17 pillow because we were cutting it close from the beginning with the original piece of fabric I provided, however she assured me there would be enough. I went to pick up the other 2 Euro Shams 5 days later…. 1 Euro Sham was fine. The 2nd Euro Sham was piece together with seams ACROSS THE FRONT AND BACK. Pictures attached. THEN she told me that I owed her another $60 for the 2nd 2 Euro Shams. I pointed out that the Thumbtack project clearly stated 6 pillows for $85 plus zippers. She never acknowledged how horrible they turned out. She acted like “everything was fine”. The quality and care taken was that of a novice. The pillows were covered inside and out with dozens of miscellaneous threads, nor ironed or steamed….. The little extra steps a professional would take to present their work to a customer to show the pride and passion in their work was simply not there. This experience was a complete nightmare. I would NEVER recommend using this seamstress for ANYTHING.

Type your response to this Hi David when I met with you I wrote down and gave you a copy. It showed that I was to make 5 Pillow cover for you. 2 17by 17, 1 20 inch and 2 of the bigger pillows. When you came to pick up in gave you what was on the invoice. Then you told me you actually wanted 4 for the big pillows. You told me that if I needed to put a seam to make it work that was fine. I checked all of the pillows to make sure that they were snug and not loose. I provided you 7 Pillow covers. The $85 were for the 5 as originally discussed. You also wanted me to purchase another 17" down pillow. I try to find you a down pillow locally and wasn't able to so I didn't charge you for it. I had to purchase 7 zippers. If there was a problem I would love to fix it. You told me the pillow covers were great. I would have really appreciate it if you had given me to correct anything that was wrong. . .
