FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I offer lessons for adults at $40/hour with a two hour minimum. It can take some time to build up a level of comfort with the machine and make headway on personal projects, which is why I encourage students to take lessons for 2-3 hours at a time. Check my website for additional rates for kids and duet lessons.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Let's start by talking about what kind of machine you have, your level of experience using it, and what kinds of projects you would like to be able to accomplish. If you have never sewn before, the first lesson will include an hour-long intro in which I will show you the ropes of how to thread and safely operate your sewing machine, as well as explore and practice the different settings and stitches.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Fashion Design in 2012. Since then, I spent three summers planning curricula and teaching a sewing-themed summer camp for kids ages 5-15 at Mavery Designs, a sewing school in Hoboken, NJ. During the school year, I taught after school sewing classes for the same company. I've also taught classes to adults in basic machine use, pattern making, and bag design. I will be teaching advanced patternmaking at Moore College of Art and Design during the Summer 2017 quarter.
