- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After initial contact and scheduling: First session, often called an "intake session" is a history-gathering interview in which your therapist learns your personal & familial history which have lead up to the current identified problem. At your second session, a treatment plan is provided to the individual (or couple or family if applicable) detailing the therapeutic interventions the therapist will involve to assist the client in meeting their established goals. This will include projections for frequency, duration, and direction of therapy sessions. During each therapy session, clients are taught new skills and techniques to assist them in better functioning and reducing conflict/problems in identified issue areas. Additionally, clients may invite any participants to assist/observe their process or engage in therapy if deemed appropriate. Sessions involve the assignment of "homework" for the client to practice outside of the therapy session to further support change in the client's identified area of growth. Goals are evaluated monthly to assess the client's progress to evaluate need for further change or reevaluation.
