FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
As each project can and does have it's own unique parameters -- I prefer to quote/estimate on each, after getting information from the customer. And, as I network with and broker to a number of print shops and service providers, there are varying price, quality, timeline, and specialty product considerations that go along with that. These are also dictated by customer needs (ie: if customer needs fastest turnaround, "rush charges" may apply, etc.) Clearly, it would be impossible to predict the unique needs of every potential customer, in this arena. However, I CAN SAY that my standard hourly rate for the graphics services part of my work is $75-$85 hourly. All customers will be provided an estimate of the time I expect to need for their project before we begin. A 50% deposit on the project total (graphics time, and printing/finishing if needed, combined) will be due before any work commences. The balance will be due prior to, or at delivery. I can accept payment online with credit or debit card via PayPal, by certified check, or cash. Invoices will show the total graphics time and cost of the printing/finishing for the project.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Whether connected by phone or email, my initial contact with the customer allows me to gather much-needed initial information about their project (overall size/scope, end usage/need, timetable for completion, medium/market to be used and reached, etc.) I then get to work determining what time I will need for each facet of the project, what specific design/production/finishing sources will come to bear on it, and arrive at a quote and estimate for the job's entirety. Once we agree on terms, a deposit is collected and things begin!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have no formal degree from a four-year college in graphics communications. However, I have taken numerous independent classes on certain design and page layout software packages and art classes of varying disciplines. Those attributes aside, I do possess a genuine God-given talent. I am proud to be self-taught in much of what I do (the better to convey concepts and ideas to customers); and have picked up dozens-upon-dozens of years of aptitude, from the various places I've worked (prior to stabbing out on my own as a Freelancer.) I think the absence of an ordered or "regimented" approach to studying something -- that's supposed to be a fluid process borne of spontaneous ideas and inspiration -- gives me an advantage in this arena, that eludes most.
