Introduction: My background is in oral history interviewing and have conducted hundreds of interviews over the years. I leverage my experience putting people at ease in my photography. I love the surprises. Whenever I pick up my camera to photograph someone, something magical seems to happen. Stopping time with a photograph reveals a hidden beauty we can't aways appreciate as it's happening. I love using the camera to reflect that back to people.

Ryan has worked with me on various projects, including videos for my website, headshots and also family portraits. I found his approach intuitive and non-intrusive which helped me to feel more at ease. He gave me feedback that improved the quality without making me more nervous. Ryan photographed my wedding in November and did a wonderful job. His creative eye made for many beautiful shots- many of which we already have hung on our walls. Very happy with the work Ryan produced. I always feel awkward in front of the camera and had low expectations for this session. But Ryan is very personable, put me at ease, and managed to get a bunch of great photos that really look like ME. They look natural and not 'over-touched', and he gave me several finished products to choose from. Highly recommend!

From someone who used to dread photo day at school, my headshot session with Ryan was outstanding. He made me feel comfortable and coached me through the secrets of achieving a great headshot. He provided the photos the same day and provided me with a ton of excellent quality photos. Hardest part now will be picking which one to use. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Photographing people is a collaboration. For me, building rapport is essential. I like to just let things unfold. I interject direction when necessary, but keeping things natural is important to me.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Listen to your gut. There are so many talented photographers out there who can take beautiful photos. Choose someone who you feel comfortable with. Someone who you feel you can just be yourself with. Not always easy to know from websites and profiles, but when you see the right person's stuff, sometimes it just speaks to you...listen to that. Good luck!
