FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I work full time as a substitute teacher, so I am available to tutor evenings and weekends. Because I have years of experience in many subjects and teach them regularly, I am confident that if I send a quote, I am fully qualified to tutor students in the subject. Because I am new to thumbtack.com I am pricing my services competitively. My price is based on a full hour’s lesson and travel of 15 miles or less. If you would like a lesson shorter than one hour, or if you are located further than 15 miles from me, additional charges apply. Generally, I do not provide quotes to tutees that live more than 15 miles from me or want lessons shorter than one hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When we meet for the first time, I will learn how you like to learn, whether you have textbooks or other materials you are comfortable with—or if you would like me to help choose study materials. I will customize my teaching to your strengths and weaknesses and what you prefer to learn. Depending on how far away from me you want tutoring, I may be able to discount my price when you pay in advance for lessons.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a teacher and tutor since I taught English during my year living in France (Junior Year Abroad 1994-95). Upon graduation from Georgetown University, I became a Teach For America CorpsMember and taught French from 1996-99. I was also responsible for organizing and training college students to tutor our students in basic math and teaching competition math and SAT Prep to our best and brightest. In twenty years of teaching, I have learned quite a bit about how to provide individually tailored services to a variety of students.
