Introduction: Since 1995, I've worked with individuals, businesses, and educational institutions to fulfill their writing, editing, and communication needs. My clients include college professors, high school students, aspiring and established authors, business owners, colleges and universities. With 17 years of experience as college and university faculty, including a position as Writing Studio Director, I have developed the ability to intuit needs and "coach" you to grow your writing, too! I love to help people actualize their voices and present their businesses so they really shine. I hire Roots and Wings Writing Services to help with business communications, especially in complex situations where I want to be clear and direct, while also building bridges with past and potential clients. Jennifer asks questions to make sure she understands 1) my intended outcome, 2) my audience, 3) my concerns, 4) exactly what has transpired to date, all the pieces of the situation or proposal and how they fit together. This helps clarify my thinking about the client. Then she revises or writes the necessary letter in an effective way, with just the right message and tone, better than I could do. If you are in business, you know that there are situations where a little finessing makes a big difference, and you need someone else's genius to help you. "I would highly recommend Jennifer as an outstanding writer and very effective coach for her clients. Her style is authentic, enthusiastic and she is very genuinely interested in her client. She spent time connecting with my 15 yo son about who he is as well as what is important to him. Through this connecting, she was able to help him think through and articulate his stories for purposes of completing an application for private school, going into the 10th grade. If you need help creating or updating a resume or writing cover letters, I’d recommend Roots and Wings. I’m a practiced writer, but when it comes to marketing myself via resume, I can have a few blind spots. This service helped me put my best foot forward while I searched for a new position in a new field of employment, and ultimately I was successful in securing a job I was targeting in the nonprofit sector. I've worked for Jennifer, who was the Writing Studio Director at my college, and she also has helped me with my writing on a professional level. Jennifer is excellent at relaying how each person can maximize learning. She is very clear, but also very friendly with her guidance. When working with college students, Jennifer is able to help them break assignments down into easily digestible tasks and suggest edits (some that are significant and some that are minor) with ease and confidence. She tends to use a guiding method of asking questions and allowing you to find the answer. She is astute when it comes to ascertaining whether or not a student already knows an answer. If they do know it and just can't "see" it - she helps lead them to it. If they don't, she helps them find ways to research and remedy that issue, which build their confidence as a writer and a person. Overall, Jennifer is an incredibly passionate and positive professional. I highly recommend her for any sort of writing, editing or mentoring opportunity.

Specific projects, such as resumes, reports, and business communication, have set "per project" rates. Ongoing projects have hourly rates. Because every project is different, I will discuss your needs with you to ascertain the time your project is likely to take, which will then determine the pricing for that project.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When you hire Roots and Wings Writing Services, I'll ask you questions about your project, to make sure I have the most complete information possible. My skill lies in tailoring my approach to suit your needs and working style. I've honed this skill by working with clients and college students for more than 10,000 hours.
