My name is Deborah Magone, I'm a survivor of teenage alcoholism, & death by severe Ulcerative Colitis. A dis-ease that creates bleeding ulcers in your colon making it impossible to retain food.
I've turned my life around to become an award-winning singer-songwriter, Grammy member, rock blues guitar player, martial arts & music instructor, intuitive reader/metaphysician, for over 35 years. A wife & former homeschooling Mother of 2, I'm currently an adult learner at RIT, & motivational speaker , while working on my first book about my journey, " How I Survived Death: My Journey through Severe Ulcerative Colitis"
I was a teenage alcoholic from a broken home. After quitting alcohol I entered college at 16 years young, National Honor Society, as an Art major, because its what everyone said I "should" do.
I realized I actually wanted to Sing & pursue a career, performing & expressing myself thru music, & martial arts, starting a martial arts school at 23 yrs young. Both were forms of expression that I enjoyed, & they were acceptable, positive, & both relieved stress which I later realized was key to my healing.
I moved to Los Angeles from NY alone. I became an actress/ stunt person & a nightclub bouncer in Hollywood for a time to help pay the rent.
I gradually realized that my anger, & negativity regarding my childhood & my parents bitter divorce, not only attracted people who were angry like me, it kept me from accomplishing my goals and enjoying a better quality of life. It also created my illness in the form of severe ulcerative colitis, that actually put me in the hospital, where I was almost pronounced dead, and then revived.
No medical person could explain why I was sick or what colitis was. Then I stumbled on a small bit of information from the late 1800’s in my local library. That information went off like the proverbial light bulb in my head and I realized that stress was THE factor.
I tried traditional methods of psychology & therapy but found it lacking. I intuited that I needed some form of self-hypnosis & self -exploration that was unique to my special situation & personality. I found a path that was positive, inspiring & empowering through behavior modification, affirmations, & other exercises, changing my thoughts one day at a time.
I then began to share my story doing motivational speaking in high schools while still in my 20's.
I began a journey of self-healing & exploration that has led me to want to share the experiences of my life that led to this horrible disease, Colitis that so many suffer from these days as evidenced by the number of drug commercials for relief, but no cure.
Like many other diseases, It’s brought on by destructive thoughts. Science now knows that our thoughts are directly linked to the health of our immune system. I now enjoy helping others by sharing my story and methods to turn your thoughts around for more control and positivity in your life. It’s the secret behind “ The Secret : The Law of Attraction” !
By taking control of my cure, I was instrumental in healing myself , and while not everyone has the desire, We all do have the power.
My hope is to inspire others & show them the power that we have by learning to master our thoughts. Think, Believe, Achieve!
I continue to counsel & help others today. I'm now 58yrs old . I still teach & practice karate, music, & meditation. I continue to publicly perform music as well. I’m also a radio DJ on a local FM station with my own talk show “ALL in ALL” on 106.3FM & globally online.
