Introduction: Tamaka Mann has several years of experience with paper editing, one-on-one and small group tutoring/teaching/volunteering across subjects within school settings, summer programs, and tutoring in centers and libraries. Tamaka Mann has a specialty in individualized tutoring (primarily literacy-related) that meets the student at his/her level. Lessons are sometimes pulled from interventions that are previously used in former positions but often come from a combined observation of patterns in student's comprehension of material and then applying the most basic instruction method to disseminate information. I enjoy the growth in all students, be it the primary student or adult student! I love seeing the bright eyes or smiles that say, "Yes! I finally understand!" I even relish the difficult mountains that we have to climb over to get to that point.

I am a college student and Tamaka has helped me with college essays and cover letters for various jobs and internships. She has degrees in English and much experience, so of course I went to her for help. Tamaka provided assistance with editing for my essays. The editing included things like structure, finding errors, and better use of vocabulary. She also helped with research. I did receive an A on my essays. With the cover letter she helped with formatting, how to include my resume and the job description, and words that would catch employers eyes. I did receive job offers with the submitted cover letters. She is great at coming up with new ideas and extending on my ideas. She is also very quick with her responses and feedback. She is patient and always glad to help whenever I need it.Tamaka is awesome at what she does!

I met Ms. Mann two and a half years ago. I explain to her how horrible I was at writing and the grammar problems I dealt with as well. She was very eager to look over my work and see where I was going wrong at. She begin to build up confidence, then telling me what I could differently to help my paper have a flo to whoever was reading it. On all of my papers she has helped edited I GOT A's and I even got accept into pharmacy school due to how strong my essay was.

When I was applying to colleges, Tamaka Mann was extremely helpful in proofreading my essays. College essays are a very important part of the application process so I am glad that I was able to find a person as skilled as her to proofread my essays. She fixed grammatical errors, but what I loved most were the stylistic edits she made. My papers went from being pretty bland to being perfectly polished very quickly with her help. She made feel confident in my essays, and now I can't wait to hear back from the colleges I applied to!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

My literacy abilities were developed through a lot of hands on work, although I do have a BA in English as well as coursework towards an MA in English. While degrees do not necessarily measure one's success in a subject, my work towards both degrees has taught me a lot about my own writing, which in turn has helped me assist others in their writing. The student experience I endured in both undergrad and grad school help me relate to and understand my college students. I have also worked for tutoring centers (Kumon Learning Center, Sylvan Learning Center); both worked and volunteered as a Homework Helper within two very distinct library systems (St. Louis, MO and one in Minneapolis, MN). I completed a year of service with Minnesota Reading Corps, an AmeriCorps State Program designed to assist students in grades K-3 with meeting grade-level requirements in reading. It was here that I learned specific literacy interventions that have proven successful. Lastly, I have worked in school districts assisting students with reading and writing (both paid and volunteer positions).

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

K-8 students; college students; adults who are returning to school; elementary school students with special needs (academic/behavior based IEPs) within a school setting.
