FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My literacy abilities were developed through a lot of hands on work, although I do have a BA in English as well as coursework towards an MA in English. While degrees do not necessarily measure one's success in a subject, my work towards both degrees has taught me a lot about my own writing, which in turn has helped me assist others in their writing. The student experience I endured in both undergrad and grad school help me relate to and understand my college students. I have also worked for tutoring centers (Kumon Learning Center, Sylvan Learning Center); both worked and volunteered as a Homework Helper within two very distinct library systems (St. Louis, MO and one in Minneapolis, MN). I completed a year of service with Minnesota Reading Corps, an AmeriCorps State Program designed to assist students in grades K-3 with meeting grade-level requirements in reading. It was here that I learned specific literacy interventions that have proven successful. Lastly, I have worked in school districts assisting students with reading and writing (both paid and volunteer positions).
