FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Editing comes in all shapes and sizes, so open communication is key. If you already have a document written, send it my way. I'll take a quick look to get a sense of what we're working with, then reach out to find out what you have in mind. Do you want a light edit, where I simply erase any typos or grammar mistakes? Or are you looking for a heavier hand, in which case I would rewrite content and help shape its overall message? If you have content in mind but haven't written it quite yet, no problem. I'm happy to chat via phone or email to hear your thoughts, and can recommend the best format and messaging to achieve your goal. Depending on what you have in mind, I can either edit what you write, or ghostwrite for you.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In college, I studied Professional Writing with an emphasis in Copyediting. The program focused on the really nitty-gritty stuff that most people despise, like where punctuation belongs, how to avoid grammatical errors, and which sentence structure really works best. (I love this stuff!) I graduated from the highly competitive program with honors, and also minored in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) to further my understanding of the language. Throughout my undergraduate career, I applied my studies as an editor for a handful of college publications and local non-profit organizations. As a professional writer, I've worn many hats: ghostblogging (researching and writing long-form content for third-party websites), editing resumes and cover letters, writing for pop culture websites, and much more. Most recently, I've been working for a multi-billion-dollar company as a full-time writer. My experience spans paid acquisition like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and radio ads; collateral like t-shirts and posters; marketing content for short films and partnerships; and go-to-market plans for new technical features of a popular product.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
What story do you want to tell? Even if you're simply looking for edits to your resume, take a minute or two to decide how you'd like others to view you. Are you Sacramento's best salesperson? The leading expert on Cuban-Thai fusion food? By having a message in mind, you'll better inform our work together.
