FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I have several discounts set up on Yelp as well as my webpage and I encourage students to sign up through those when possible. Rates lower for biweekly and online students. Rates are also lower for students willing to commit and pre-pay for 3 or 5 classes. In general, while I try to keep rates low, my commitment to quality is high and in order to ensure that I am able to be sensitive to my student's needs, I am not able to substantially lower them. I work in a way that for every hour that I spend with my student, I spend an hour preparing their assignment and for their next class. However, I do try to work with students on rates and am open to negotiation. In the event rates appear steep or out of budget, I encourage students to message me and let me know what they are willing to pay so it makes it easier for me to accept or reject.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I collect information regarding subjects, test deadlines, current grade, areas of weakness, learning styles and expectations over the phone. In addition, I also discuss scheduling and work out potential times with the student or caregiver. The first class is typically an assessment where I assess a student's level, learning style, motivations and other information relevant for me to be able to teach them. At the end of this, I create a plan with areas that need work as well as help them schedule study times, rewards and other motivators.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a recent PhD in Electrical Engineering and have worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant, Engineer and finally teacher. I teach STEAM camps over summer and have been tutoring middle through high school students professionally for the past 3 years. Apart from my own students, I contract and have been trained via Study Wizards. I have several good reviews from many of my students. I also volunteer for a senior level engineering class called Digital Electronics. I am a Life long learner myself and have advocated and taught using the principles of the Growth Mindset. I strongly believe that failure is just another opportunity to succeed and my experience have proved that given the right tools and motivation, all students are able to succeed academically. My training in Project Management helps me help students under the constraints they are working under and plan their resources accordingly.
