FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin each new customer with an in-depth design consultation to get a feel for one another, as well as the scope of the project. From there, if we decide the fit is right, developing a design plan based around budget, priority areas, timelines, and other matters that play a major role, we together map out the details of the project, and begin moving towards the execution of the design!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
One could say I was bred into this career, having watched my parents purchase, renovate and restore and deal in antiques for the forgotten estates of the Hudson River Valley. By the time I graduated college, I had 3 years experience as a museum curator specializing in designing homes and offices with art, as well as 2 years staging various commercial spaces in Manhattan for the highest profitability. I love working and learning new skills, so once I felt I was secure in business management and many aspects of design and arts, I focused on the building side, and owned my own specialized historic restoration and redesign company in Charleston, where I worked side by side with my employees as much as possible. Amidst all of this, I worked as a designer more and more, feeling myself naturally growing towards a design/build career to bring together my various experience and skills.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
If a designer is more concerned with your budget or labels than their chemistry with you, they will only give you a sterile "show off" space, and never be able to leave you with something that speaks to your soul, as they never took the time to understand it.
