I have been a client of Kim Oakes for over 5 years. I had worked with a psychiatrist in Dallas, TX for 17 years, due to issues with a Bipolar husband and Schizophrenic son. A move to NY State after a divorce added to my issues--divorce, helping my disabled son who moved with me, a new relationship, going back into the work world and the pressures of all this in my early 60's. Kim has been wonderful--kind but candid, realistic about my problems but empathic, and offering options of ways to deal with difficult people. She has taught me a great deal about "boundaries." In moments of crisis, I've even called Kim, and she "talked me down out of the trees" over the phone. She is easy to talk to, has a lovely sense of humor, and is an excellent listener. I would not hesitate to send anyone with personal or family issues to her--be it divorce, disabled family members, difficult relationship problems in family or work, and life crises. She has helped me more in 6 years than the psychiatrist in Dallas did in 17! In a nutshell, she is extremely caring, and at the same time, very down to earth.
