Hired on Thumbtack

We hired Marc and his crew for 2 projects. 1) Build a shed. 2) Renovate a room by taking out carpet, installing tile, installing lights, installing baseboards/quarter rounds, painting. The first project was building a shed. We were told this would take 2 days to do. They started at the end of November and finished in January. A lot of times they would say they were coming and then wouldn't show up. Or would come and only work for like 30 minutes. He promised to install lights at the end of the project but never did. Project 2. Renovate a room. They got to work on the room before they had even finished the shed. However they didnt take things out of the room to start. Instead all of the remaining items were covered in dust and materials (there was no prep work). They installed the tile in 2 days. But did a bad job. They told us it was because the room was on an uneven surface and that to make it even would have cost several thousand dollars to pour new concrete (we may have considered this if they had told us when they encountered the problem). We went over several of the poorly laid tiles with them and marked several tiles that could be improved just by laying them a different direction. Of the 28 tiles we marked, they changed 4. Then they just stopped showing up but demanded payment for this phase of the project. We paid them for the tile as they said they needed it to get materials for next phase. A week went by and we never heard back. I finally got a hold of Marc through text. He said he was unable to work at this time. It was a very odd way to just stop coming. They did a good job with the Shed...but I wouldn't rely on them for anything that is a bigger project. Or anything that you need good communication or done in a timely manner. UPDATE: Three of the tiles are now cracked. They were some of the tiles we had asked to have repositioned since they seemed to be in danger of getting cracked. They are cracked now. We will likely have to do it ourselves. Which is fine. We just shouldn't have paid someone to do a bad job to begin with. We told Marc about the cracked tile and received very little response.

After meeting with several painters we decided to go with Marc Dixon. His work estimate was in line with other painters. It has been a great experience. The work is beautiful! They were here when they said they would be and worked diligently for a professional outcome. I would definately hire him to complete other projects. If you are thinking about getting some quality work done, this is a good place to start. Mr. Dixon supplied me with numbers of other satisfied customers. I called to check his references and determined he was the one to do the job. I asked him to remove popcorn ceiling, retexture and paint. There were 3 different surfaces, wallpaper, a sand texture (from me previously covering wallpaper) and then a typical knock-down--- and I asked that they all match. It is very nice! He matched what was in my living room without having to re-do the entire texture of the room. I am very pleased with the quality of work!

Marc Dixon (Handyman At Your Service) did excellent work for us. Our job encompassed painting the interior of a 2400sq.ft. home and removing the acoustic (popcorn) ceilings throughout. Marc completed the job on schedule and on budget. He is a diligent, courteous worker and demonstrates flexibility and creativity working with his client. We would hire him again.
