On New Year's Eve my boiler would not shut off and my house was almost 90 degrees on the main level, even hotter upstairs. I thought perhaps the thermostat was broken. Troy responded to my thumbtack request quickly. When he came, he took the door off the boiler and it shut off. Problem solved? He quoted $55 for the consultation in the thumbtack response, then tried to charge me $67.... Not surprisingly, that did not fix the issue. I called letting him know it was still hot as hell and he returned. He changed the thermostat, charging me $125 for it claiming that was the retail price (the cheap thing costs $25) and proceeded to speak to me like I was an idiot and did not know how a thermostat or boiler worked. He left. Not surprisingly, that did not fix the issue. I sent him pictures of what I had been saying so he could better understand. My sister and I were able to diagnose and fix the problem ourselves. I called Troy to let him know and asked him to refund me the thermostat. He did so immediately and we made an appointment for him to come get the thermostat at 4 pm the next day. Despite our agreeing on a time, he started calling as early as noon. This was all a complete waste of time and money. Troy was unable to fix the issue, overcharges and seemingly makes up prices as he goes. Ultimately I had to diagnose and fix the issue myself. Came within 24 hours. Showed up on time. Assessed the problem with our AC unit and fixed it on a Sunday evening. He was on the expensive side $100 per hour and charged for the time of the diagnostic as well (which was said to be $35). He did waive the $35 diagnostic fee when I pointed out he was double charging for his time which he agreed was fair. All and all It was $520 to replace the AC fan motor. All and all, it was nice to have someone so punctual and professional on a Sunday afternoon and as always, you have to pay for quality work.Aug 26, 2018Verified
