Have had a very positive experience with this music studio. I started guitar lessons last fall with Ian Harrah. I am a complete novice - could not be further from being "a natural" - and Ian has been so patient. The owner, Brad, has also been very easy to work with when scheduling my first visit and setting up payments, and he even called just to see how lessons were going. Definitely recommended!

An awesome place to learn music!
My 8 year old daughter has been learning piano at Encore Music Studios for almost three years. Last year, she also began to learn violin there. Both piano and violin teachers are wonderful and great with kids. They also made efforts on putting our piano and violin classes next to each other so we do not have to make two trips each week. We are very happy about that! Recitals twice a year are very nice! Group violin lesson is awesome and must have! My daughter love it! The new reward program is special too! Love this place!

    Encore is like family
My son takes piano lessons from Ian Harrah. Ian is welcoming and engaging to me as a parent and always fun and exciting with my son. My son looks forward to his lesson each week! I am happy with the frequent newsletter updates from director Bradley Allen also.

    Ian personalizes instruction
Ian is a patient, competent and knowledgeable teacher. He adapts his teaching method by taking into consideration the students age & knowledge of both music & the instrument. He puts forth the effort to keep the lessons challenging but fun!

    Misleading Quote
I ended up declining Encore's services because the quote they gave me on Thumbtack, which I accepted and then scheduled my lessons, was misleading as there was an additional registration fee of $25 not included in the original quote.
    Encore M. Mar 1, 2017

Lisa, Encore never intends to be misleading. Unfortunately, there is not a way of including the registration fee on the initial quote for music lessons. I am given two choices- quote an hourly rate or total cost. Since music lessons are different than a lot of services offered on Thumbtack in that it includes an ongoing, monthly cost, the way in which Encore has determined to quote its service is by the single lesson price. In some cases, a student will want 30 min. lessons- we quote $27 (the actual value is $27.50, but I am unable to add cents to the quote). Others want 60 min. lessons which we quote at $50/lesson. We always include our website link in each quote and encourage potential clients to look at our reviews, policies, and pricing which includes the information about the registration fee since the number of characters in each quote is limited by Thumbtack. In some cases we waive our registration fee, but in this case, the client did not ask for that. She simply informed us she was no longer interested in taking lessons. I was surprised by the client's response since the investment for 6 months of 30 min. lessons is $660 and it did not seem that the $25 "surprise" would have been significantly prohibitive. Encore also does not quote $0.00 for the initial complimentary lesson we offer everyone through Thumbtack which has a value that exceeds the registration fee.

    Guitar Lessons with Ian
My daughter is taking guitar lessons from Ian and having a great experience. I think she is getting good and patient instruction and a reasonable but still somewhat challenging amount of homework. Shortly after beginning, she was encouraged to do a recital, and I initially thought it was too early, but it ended up being a really good and motivating event. We do lessons at the Dublin location and are overall very satisfied.

    Wonderful people and excellent teaching!!
We have had a great experience at Encore so far. Brad was very proactive in helping to connect us with a teacher when we first moved to Columbus. Our violin teacher Sean is fun and encouraging and really knows his stuff! My boys love the group lessons as well.

He is patient and makes the lessons fun for the kids. He also uses the Faber and Faber lesson books which we so desired.

Brad is an excellent piano teacher and has been teaching my son for almost three years now. He is a subtle, but challenging teacher and keeps a child motivated and eager to learn more.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
$110/month for weekly 30 min. lessons $155/month for weekly 45 min. lessons $200/month for weekly 60 min. lessons
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We offer a complimentary lesson with your prospective music teacher at a time and place convenient to you. We have you sign up online on our website so that we can enter you into the teacher's studio calendar. I make sure the teacher and you are prepared for that first lesson. The teacher will explain studio policies and develop a rapport with the student. I follow up with you after the lesson to listen to your satisfaction level and to set a regular schedule if you choose to continue.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a BM in Vocal Performance and a BME in Music Education. I have taught K-12 and all ages privately. I feel like everything I have been trained to do is being utilized in the role of music studio director and owner.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I loved singing in church and listening with my Dad to great classical music on the red carpet in our living room. Musicals, classes, performances and Degrees later I taught in K-12 classrooms and Music Studios. I recently became the owner of Encore Music Studios.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Encore welcomes all ages- young beginners, teens, students auditioning for college, working adults, retirees. Though we are classically trained, we have also worked with those who love numerous genre outside classical- Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop, Country, Folk, Gospel . . .
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently enjoyed working with a particular student, who is retired, develop more confidence in his singing voice so now he goes regularly to perform in church, retirement communities, nursing homes, etc . . . and had a woman in her nineties, who had been a dance studio owner, get up and dance to his singing!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for great reviews and grades from consumer advocacy companies. Consider the length of time they have been in business. Look for teachers who hold music degrees.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Do you offer recital opportunities? What length of lesson do you recommend? How long should I plan on taking lessons to reach my long-term goals?
