- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I provide a one-hour first consultation, free-of-charge. This is the "meet and greet" time for all of us to determine if we are all (client, pets and sitter) a good match. I will chat with the pet guardians, play with the dogs, touch noses with the cats - anything appropriate for each case, in order to get to know them all. The clients tell me what they feel their pets need and I explain the services I provide. At that time, the client and I read an overview of my contracts, whether it is for a brief vacation or business trip, weekly dog walking, or long-term care, and determine how best we can work together. During my visits, I write a daily log of activities and note any interesting anecdotes from each visit. I text my client, at the end of each visit, if I am providing a mid-day/mid-shift break for their pets, or at the end of each day, if I am taking care, while the client is out of town.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been pet sitting since I was a teen. I wasn't keen on child care. But, I loved animals and cared for some of my neighbors' pets. I got back into it, just after college, continuing to provide pet care, in a very restrictive basis, until I moved to Wilmington. It took me a number of years to try again, as I had pursued a different path. When I realized I missed my joy, I returned to pet sitting and have been doing what I love, ever since.
