I hired Mr. Dowler to install about 850 sq feet of tile in my kitchen and family room. Overall I am happy with the project, however, Mr. Dowler told me when he was complete that if I find any defects that he would take care of them. I noticed a few areas where he rushed the job and it looks less than stellar (visible cut lines, and tile not flush so too much grout next to the wall). Also, some of the grout that he installed did not take and is coming off. Now, Mr. Dowler will not respond to my messages, so I don't think he is going to live up to his word. It's unfortunate because I do like the tile and I did have about 3-4 more projects--but there is no way I can hire someone again who will not deliver quality and stand behind their work. My warning to anyone else is to not pay him in full until you are completely satisfied with the job--otherwise you will not hear from him again. UPDATE: 3 weeks after the project and my steps basically came apart, and I have found many more areas that he rushed and did less than stellar work. I am only updating to hopefully prevent anyone from having to go through what we are dealing with here. I am replacing and repairing his work on my own (since I gave up trying to get ahold of him). The only positive I can bring from this is that he inspired me to do tile work myself--can't be any worse and definitely cheaper that way.
