FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always love to start with getting more information on the project. Things like what the company is and does, how long it's been around, what the target audience is, some company history, favorite colors, and so on. The more I know about the project and what you're looking for, the more help I can be. I also like to know if the customer prefers me to let loose creatively and bring a bunch of ideas to the table, or if the customer prefers me to be hands-off, following explicit instructions. Some customers have a specific vision that they want me to bring to life, and that's perfectly okay, I can work well either way! From that point, I like to set up a deadline for the project so I can prioritize my projects, request any materials available, such as existing logos, mission statements, important dates, domain names, and any specific instructions that may have been missed in earlier discussions, then we begin! I never get paid until the website is completed and approved. (Psst, that means if you don't like it, you're not throwing away any money!)
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always had a very "do-it-yourself" type of personality, and that mixed with my desire to know how things function. Over the past several years, I have been a part of many projects that required web design, website management, and social media creation/management, and rather than hire someone else to do it, I figured I could learn to do it better and cheaper myself! So over the years I began playing around with different website hosting companies and other programs until I figured out what was best for me.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I work with all types of customers, generally on a smaller scale. I have worked with musicians, non-profits, construction companies, and so on. I usually work with customers to provide a public face for their company (or band, or whatever the need) rather than working on back-end things, such as databases, profiles, and so on.
