Introduction: I have the innate skill sets, and training to enable people in psychiatric crisis to trust me enough to help them de-escalate, and begin to cope with their sense of fear, paranoia, panic, or hopelessness, such that we can begin using other skill sets and treatment options. Once they have been able to reach a less pervasive and intense level of fear and crisis, they can gradually help me and their other "team members" to assist them in becoming more comfortable and to feel safe enough to remain within their own domain. while they continue to "recover". I love the human brain and psyche and am fascinated in the practice of reaching out to those who are at least temporarily "thought disordered" due to a medical condition that lay people refer to as "crazy" or "psychotic' or manic" or whatever, and finding a way to present a non-threatening and affirming way to acknowledge there thoughts, fears, and perceptions, which to them are actually occurring in their reality, their brain!
